Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The Free Arab Voice

Monday, 7 June 2004.

Iraqi Resistance pounds US forces at Saddam International Airport with protracted nighttime rocket and mortar barrage.

Saddam International Airport near Baghdad, currently occupied by US invaders who have turned it into one of their major military bases, came under an extremely fierce attack by the Iraqi Resistance after midnight in the early hours of Monday. The Resistance pounded the American base at the airport with rockets and mortars. According to the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, the sound of explosions continued during the night, coming from al-'Amiriyah district. The correspondent reported that the Resistance bombardment reached its peak at around 5:00am local time when an intense series of explosions went off continually for more than a quarter of an hour without letup. The reverberation of the blasts could also be heard from within the airport, but as usual, the US aggressors provided no information regarding the extent or nature of their casualties.

One US aggressor soldier killed, two others wounded in roadside Resistance bombing near al-Iskandariyah, south of Baghdad.

A US military spokeswoman announced late on Monday that one American aggressor was killed and two others wounded Monday when an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by the convoy of which the soldiers were a part. The attack took place near al-Iskandariyah south of Baghdad. Agence France Presse (AFP) reported the spokewsoman as saying that the Resistance bomb was a "home-made" explosive that struck the US convoy 40km south of Baghdad at 11:00am local time. She said that the US troops opened fire on people they saw "fleeing" the scene of the attack. She said that the military wounded were treated at an American aggressor base. No further details of the incident were offered by the American spokeswoman. It is common knowledge in Iraq that the standard practice of American aggressor troops is to open fire indiscriminately in all directions immediately after any Resistance attack, and then to arrest anyone in the vicinity. Any person who happens to find himself in the vicinity of a Resistance attack on a US convoy is likely to try to leave the area quickly in anticipation of the Americans’ routine response.

Iraqi Resistance launches mortar, small arms attack at US checkpoint, battles US troops in Ba'qubah.

Battles erupted between US aggressor troops and Iraqi Resistance fighters on Monday morning in the Bahraz district in the south of the city of Ba'qubah. Al-Jazeera satellite TV reported from Ba'qubah that clashes broke out after the Resistance attacked a US military checkpoint with mortars and light arms. There was no initial word regarding the extent or nature of American casualties.

Two spies reported executed by Resistance in Baghdad.

Iraqi Resistance fighters executed two spies in the al-Hurriyah neighborhood of Baghdad on Monday, shooting and killing them instantly. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the local people believed the two were collaborators who worked for the US aggressor forces as spies.

Muhyi ad-Din was felled by eight bullets and died. Kirkuk has been the scene of ethnic fighting as Kurdish chauvinist parties allied to the US invaders seek to "ethnically cleanse" the city of Arabs and Turkomans.

Explosions rock al-Kufah mosque before noon on Monday.

Eyewitnesses and medical sources said that the explosion that shook the Mosque of al-Kufah shortly before noon on Monday left at least three persons dead and 12 others injured. Reports about the identity of the casualties were conflicting. Reuters reported Dr. 'Ali at-Tufayli in al-Kufah General Hospital as saying that they were civilians. Eyewitnesses and other doctors, however, said that they were members of the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia loyal to Shi'i religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr. According to al-Jazeera’s correspondent in the city, a number of blasts went off inside the mosque and columns of smoke could be seen rising from the building. The correspondent said that six ambulances rushed to the scene and fire trucks were seen heading towards the building too. Agence France Presse (AFP) quoted a member of the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, loyal to Shi'i religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr, as saying in al-Kufah that the blast occurred at about 11:30am local time. He said that a rocket was heard crashing into an ammunition store room in the mosque. Witnesses said that fires broke out in a part of the mosque. Ambulances arrived and the Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen were prevented from approaching the scene.

Al-'Arabiyah satellite TV reported al-Jaza’iri as saying that a number of civilians and puppet police had also een killed in the battles but that most of those killed belonged to the Jaysh al-Mahdi. The Jaysh al-Mahdi was formed in July 2003 after the assassination of Muhammad Baqir al-Hakim a collaborator who headed the pro-American organization that calls itself the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI).

Iraqi Resistance fighters on Tuesday attacked a US supply truck as it accompanied a column of American invader troops on the at-Taji road near Baghdad. The attack occurred at 6:00pm local time and left the driver dead and the truck completely destroyed. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reports that the truck had license plates from one of the Arabian Gulf states.

Resistance land mine kills four, wounds many US troops east of al-Fallujah.

At least four US aggressor soldiers were killed and a number of others received various types of wounds when a land mine planted by the Iraqi Resistance exploded under an American personnel carrier east of al-Fallujah early Tuesday night. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Fallujah reported that the American personnel carrier, which was jammed with American troops, ran over a land mine on the Baghdad expressway at 7:45pm local time.

Battle rages into the night in al-Karmah; US deploys snipers, threatening civilians.

Battles continued to rage after night fall in the al-Karmah area, east of al-Fallujah, between US aggressor troops and the Resistance fighters of the region. Having begun around noon, by evening US armored vehicles and Apache helicopters were prowling the area around the town. Mafkarat al-Islam’s correspondent in the area reported that the al-Karmah Resistance fighters showed great courage, preventing the US troops from making any appreciable advance in their direction. The correspondent reported, however, that the Americans had managed to deploy a number of snipers in various parts of al-Karmah town preventing local residents from being able to venture out of their homes. The situation was particularly acute since the town of al-Karmah is a tribal town, meaning that houses are spread farther apart from one another than they are in the city of al-Fallujah. This makes it easier for snipers to operate and prevent people from leaving their houses over a much wider area.

Al-Fallujah Resistance fighters head towards al-Karmah to aid the town in fierce fighting against the American aggressors.

Late on Tuesday afternoon a large number of al-Fallujah resistance fighters set off for the town of al-Karmah, east of al-Fallujah, to provide support for the Resistance in that town, currently engaged in battles with the American enemy. Fierce fighting erupted after noon in al-Karmah and was still raging as night fell. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Fallujah reported that the al-Fallujah Resistance fighters intended to carry out guerrilla attacks against the American rear lines. The action is a mirror image of what took place a couple of months previous when Resistance fighters from al-Karmah and other towns attacked the Americans and cut their supply lines as they were laying siege to the defiant city of al-Fallujah. Minarets in the city of al-Fallujah raised cries of "Allahu Akbar!" ("God is greatest!") encouraging the residents of the city to offer their support to their brothers going off to fight on the al-Karmah front, and also to donate blood. The correspondent reports that all the al-Fallujah fighters who set off for al-Karmah on Tuesday departed from the eastern neighborhoods of al-Fallujah as local residents chimed in with the minarets in chanting "Allahu akbar!". Earlier in the day, AP reported eyewitnesses as saying that the Resistance fighters attacked a puppet police station in al-Karmah town, 40 miles west of Baghdad. Before launching their attack, the Resistance fighters first warned shopkeepers in the vicinity. A fierce battle ensued. A translator collaborating with the US aggressors was kidnapped in al-Karmah on Saturday. The US invader troops launched a search for the collaborator but were unable to find him.

Iraqi Resistance assaults US Marine invaders near al-Fallujah.

The US Associated Press (AP) reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters on Tuesday attacked a group of US Marine aggressors who were concentrated near the city of al-Fallujah. The AP said that a battle erupted after the Resistance attack, but provided no information on the extent or nature of casualties among the American invader forces.

Iraqi Resistance fighters shell US base at Saddam Interational Airport from Abu Ghurayb market.

Eyewitnesses report that Saddam International Airport near Baghdad, which the American invaders have made into one of their largest bases in the area of the Iraqi capital, came under an intense 82mm mortar barrage mounted by Iraqi Resistance fighters from the area of Abu Ghurayb market and from al-Khadra’ where loud explosions were heard. The Resistance also fired rockets at the US camp, probably, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported, rockets of the Grad type. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Baghdad related that eyewitnesses reported that three vehicles stopped near the market and more than ten Resistance fighters jumped out of them, set up mortars in the street and then began to shell the airport. The correspondent added that witnesses who work inside the airport said that the barrage caused considerable damage. In addition, the daily mortar barrages have taken a definite toll on the mental health of the American occupation troops.

Iraqi Resistance bomb targets US military column at fuel station in Baghdad.

An Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb exploded on Tuesday near the al-'Amiriyah fuel station in Baghdad. According to the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the occupied Iraqi capital, the bomb exploded in the midst of a US military column, immediately destroying one Humvee. The blast, which took place during the morning, also destroyed two civilian cars near by.

Car bomb explodes at entrance to US base in Ba'qubah as collaborators were lining up to go to work. One American aggressor killed, three injured. Three other dead, at least eight reported injured in the Tuesday morning blast.

The US military admitted on Tuesday morning that one US soldier had been killed and three others wounded when an Iraqi Resistance car bomb blew up outside the front gate of the main US military base in Ba'qubah. Earlier, eyewitnesses, hospital sources, and the Iraqi puppet police had indicated that four people were killed and at least 11 were wounded when a car bomb exploded on Tuesday in front of the main US military base in Ba'qubah, northeast of Baghdad. The blast occurred as Iraqi collaborators who are employed on the base were lined up to be searched on their way into the base to their places of work. Al-Jazeera’s correspondent reported that the explosion occurred at an entrance to the camp specially designated for collaborator workers in al-Faris Airport, which the US aggressors have occupied and turned into their regional headquarters north of Ba'qubah. The correspondent said that a car exploded as it was heading in the direction of the garage near the entrance to the airport. Ziyad Mahmud, who himself works on the base, located 60km northeast of Baghdad, told Agence France Presse (AFP) that "a car blew up at 8:00am local time (05:00GMT) near the base as a large number of Iraqis were gathered awaiting their turn to get in to their places of work." Dr. Husayn 'Ali, a physician in Ba'qubah General Hospital said that at least 10 persons had been injured in the explosion. An initial US report acknowledged that a bomb had gone off but said that there was no information on loss of life. One witness told Reuters that an American soldier was among those wounded in the Resistance attack.

Ten killed and over 100 others injured in Resistance car bombing at puppet authority government building in Mosul.

A statement issued by the US aggressor forces in Iraq said that a bomb hidden inside a taxi cab was detonated in front of the governorate building in the northern city of Mosul, greatly damaging the building and destroying at least nine cars in the vicinity. At least 10 persons were killed and over 100 others wounded in the Iraqi Resistance car bombing that took place Tuesday morning. News reports indicated that Major General Salim al-Hajj 'Isa, the head of the puppet Security Committee in Mosul Province and a member of the local puppet governing council in the province were targets in the blast but that they escaped from the assassination attempt. Al-Jazeera satellite TV reported local puppet police sources as saying that General al-Hajj 'Isa was wounded in the blast but there was no more specific word on his condition. The Egyptian Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters had planted a bomb in the main public road leading to the governorate building for Ninwa Province (of which Mosul is the capital city). Other reports ascribed the blast to an explosives-laden car. In addition to the killed and injured, nine cars, including that of Major General Salim al-Hajj 'Isa, were burned in the explosion. After the blast, US aggressor troops and Iraqi puppet forces filled the area around the scene of the attack in the center of Mosul. Fire trucks rushed to the scene in an attempt to get the blazes set by the explosion under control.

Iraqi Resistance fires rocket barrage at US base in Saddam International Airport.

Iraqi Resistance forces on Tuesday fired a rocket barrage at al-'Aynah point inside Saddam International Airport near Baghdad – a site occupied by the US aggressors as one of their major bases in the area of the Iraqi capital. The Qatari News Agency (Qana) reported the attack but noted that the extent of US casualties and destruction was still unknown. US helicopters, however, could be seen landing at the scene of the attack, perhaps in order to evacuate dead and wounded.

Resistance attacks US patrol south of Bayji.

Iraqi Resistance fighters attacked a US aggressor patrol on the southern outskirts of Bayji on Tuesday. The Resistance fired rockets at the US patrol as the Americans were trying to disarm a roadside bomb. According to the correspondent of al-Jazeera satellite TV in Tikrit, the rocket attack put one US vehicle out of commission. There was no immediate word on the extent or nature of US or Iraqi casualties in the attack.

Export of Iraqi oil to the north cut off by Resistance attacks on pipeline to Turkey.

A source in the company established to market oil from occupied Iraq "Sumu" reported on Tuesday that Iraqi Resistance attacks on the vital Iraqi export pipeline that carries plundered oil to Turkey had repeatedly resulted in shut downs of the flow of Iraqi oil to the north. This has repeatedly limited occupied Iraq’s exports to the oil that the US invaders have been able to pump out through the southern port of al-Basrah, i.e., about 1.65 million barrels of crude daily. The source told Reuters that it would be "some time" before repairs could be made to the pipeline so as to allow the US plunderers to resume pumping Iraqi oil out of the country to the north

US Marine aggressor admitted killed on Monday.

The US aggressor military in Iraq admitted in a statement issued around midday on Tuesday that one US Marine invader had been killed in an Iraqi Resistance attack in al-Anbar Province, west of Baghdad on Monday. Reuters, which reported the official US statement, said that the Marine was killed in operations trying to impose "security and stability" in al-Anbar – a province in which the cities of al-Fallujah and ar-Ramadi are located.

Polish invader spokesman: Six East European aggressor troops killed in munitions explosion.

A spokesman for the Polish aggressor forces in Iraq announced on Tuesday that six soldiers had been killed in the course of an effort to eliminate a stockpile of munitions. Colonel Geslaw Ganatowski, a spokesman for the Polish occupation general staff, said that the men were killed when they were taking the munitions out of the storeroom and blowing them up. As the troops were unloading them from a vehicle, something, probably a bomb designed to be dropped from an airplane, exploded. The aggressor troops killed in the blast included three Slovaks, two Poles, and one Latvian invader. The Polish aggressor spokesman added that a number of soldiers were wounded in the explosion. Poland, Slovakia, and Latvia are all satellite countries under United States control. Troops from those states serve as cannon fodder for US imperialism in occupied Iraq. Poland is in command of a so-called "multinational" contingent of troops from 17 American satellite countries totalling some 2,400 men.

Resistance holds seven Turkish hostages.

The American Associated Press (AP) reported on Tuesday that Iraqi Resistance fighters had kidnapped seven Turks working for the US aggressor forces in Iraq. In a video film obtained by the AP, three Turks appeared surrounded by masked armed men. Four other hostages could be seen separately being interviewed by journalists according to the source. One of the masked men in the film told the Turks to take a stand beside "their Iraqi Muslim brothers" and refuse to work with the US aggressors occupying Iraq. Earlier on Tuesday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that Iraqi Resistance fighters had kidnapped two Turks and their Iraqi driver in al-Fallujah. Reuters quoted the Turkish spokesman as saying that Ankara had few details of the capture, but that two Turkish subjects and their driver had been kidnapped in al-Fallujah on Monday. They were, he said, employees of a company headquartered in the northern city of Mosul. One Turk who worked transporting supplies to the US aggressor troops was kidnapped in Iraq the previous week. The Turkish Foreign Ministry had pledged to secure his freedom.

Muqtada as-Sadr spokesman: "if the US grants Iraq a democratic government, the problem will be solved."

Supporters of Shi'i religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr announced that they would not withdraw from the tomb of the Imam 'Ali ibn Abi Talib in an-Najaf until a democratically elected government takes power in Iraq. The spokesman said, however, that if the US fulfills its promises and grants Iraq a "democratic government" that the problems between Muqtada as-Sadr and the US will be solved. Shaykh Ahmad Shaybani, one of Muqtada as-Sadr’s most prominent spokesemen, told Agence France Presse (AFP) "if the promise that the United States made about the transfer of power is carried out, and if the Iraqis begin to obtain what they need, then the Jaysh al-Mahdi will recognize the legitimate government. The Jaysh al-Mahdi will completely withdraw when the Americans carry out their promises and grant the formation of a democratic government, and when we have obtained real promises and real arrangements, then the problem will be solved." The spokesman for Muqtada as-Sadr made no mention of an American withdrawal from Iraq and it was not clear how he thought that a genuine democracy could be "granted" to Iraq by any foreign occupying power. Earlier, General Ghalib al-Jaza’iri, commander of the puppet police in the city of an-Najaf gave Jaysh al-Mahdi until midnight on Monday to withdraw from its positions near the tomb of the Imam 'Ali. The Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen have taken up positions in abandoned houses near the tomb and erected roadblocks and checkpoints for visitors to the tomb, according to a correspondent for AFP. Asked whether he expected any more clashes, Shaybani accused the Iraqi puppet police of making the atmosphere in an-Najaf tense. He said that the Jaysh al-Mahdi was deployed near the Shi'i tombs in the city and that this was in accord with the cease fire agreement that the militia had concluded with the Americans.

US prepares to storm into homes in at-Tarimiyah.

Late on Wednesday night, a correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that more than 50 American military vehicles have encircled the at-Tarimiyah area north of Baghdad. It is likely, the correspondent reports, that the Americans are planning an intensive and forceful search of the area, presumably in search of Iraqi Resistance fighters and weapons. The road to at-Taji, which passes through at-Tarimiyah, is a theater for daily Resistance attacks on the US occupation forces.

Iraqi Resistance mounts multi-pronged attacks on US supply convoys in Baghdad area.

Iraqi Resistance fighters launched a rocket attack on a convoy bringing materiel and provisions to the US aggressor forces. One vehicle in the convoy was set ablaze in the attack that took place in al-Khadra’ neighborhood. The Egyptian Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported that Iraqi puppet police sealed off the scene of the attack. Meanwhile, trucks carrying concrete barriers (used by the US invaders for their protection and security in their bases and camps), were attacked by the Resistance in the districts of al-'Adl and az-Za'faraniyah in Baghdad. Puppet police also cordoned off those areas. Earlier, eyewitnesses and US aggressor troops reported from al-Khadra’ neighborhood that two Resistance fighters riding in a car opened fire on Wednesday on a US military truck that was still burning one hour after the attack. The correspondent of Agence France Presse (AFP) reported that a crowd gathered around the wreckage of the vehicle after the Resistance attack and hurled insults at fire fighters who came to put out the blaze. The crowd urged the firemen to let the truck keep on burning. Burhan ad-Din Husayn, was repairing his car in a garage when the Resistance attacked the Americans at about 10:30am local time. "A soldier who was on the truck ran away and jumped aboard another one." One US soldier claimed that the attackers threw Molotov coctails at the truck.

Resistance destroys new Landrovers intended for Iraqi puppet police.

Iraqi Resistance fighters carried out an attack on a convoy of trucks bringing new Landrover vehicles for use by the Iraqi puppet police on Wednesday afternoon. According to the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, the Resistance fighters positioned themselves on the Embassy Overpass in the al-'Amiriyah district of Baghdad. From there they tossed hand grenades down on a truck carrying the new Landrover vehicles. The attack cauused considerable damage, but inflicted no casualties.

Resistance executes reputed spy.

A group of Iraqi Resistance fighters intercepted a white Daiwoo car and compelled it to stop, whereupon they poured a hail of automatic weapons bullets into the vehicle killing its driver instantly. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reports that the individual in the car was reportedly a spy working for the US occupation forces.

Resistance mortar barrage kills 12 Iraqi puppet security troops.

An Iraqi puppet security force in the town of al-Fallujah reported that 12 of its members were killed and 10 others wounded in a Resistance attack on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses to the attack reported that the Resistance fired mortars that struck the camp of the security force. Major General Muhammad Latif was not in the vicinity at the time, nor were any US aggressor troops in evidence at the time of the attack. Members of the security force reported that their men had been scheduled to mount a joint patrol with US aggressor troops at the time of the Resistance attack. The report of the attack was not confirmed by other sources.

US tanks gather outside al-Fallujah, request security guarantee for a "patrol."

Fifteen US tanks gathered on Wednesday morning at the entrance to the city of al-Fallujah according to a report by Agence France Presse (AFP). The correspondent reported that the tanks massed on the road leading to the city about one kilometer east of the checkpoint that controls the approach to the city. A number of residents of al-Fallujah reported that the US forces asked officials to provide guarantees of their peaceful entry into the city to undertake a patrol there.

Resistance blows up pipeline knocking power station off line.

One member of the guards of the Bayji energy complex was killed and another suffered severe burns when an Iraqi Resistance bomb blew up two pipelines, one carrying oil, the other carrying natural gas. The Egyptian Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported that the Iraqi puppet so-called "ministry of electricity" had announced that the station located near al-Fathah Bridge north of Baghdad had ceased working after Resistance fighters blew up an oil pipeline that supplied the station with fuel. The Resistance attacked the pipeline late on Tuesday night, causing a loss of 400 megawatts of electricity. The result will be longer hours of black out in several regions of the occupied country, in particular in the capital, Baghdad where the US aggressors have set up their headquarters and puppet government of stooges. 'Asim Jihad, a spokesman for the puppet so-called "Iraqi ministry of petroleum," told the American Associated Press (AP) that the pipeline hit in the Resistance attack carried fuel to one of the largest power generating stations in Iraq.

Iraqi Resistance blows up natural gas pipeline near Bayji.

An official in the energy sector of the puppet Iraqi regime admitted that Resistance fighters had attacked a natural gas pipeline in northern Iraq on Wednesday, setting it aflame. Reuters reported Majid Mannun, an official in charge of pipelines in the area around Bayji, 180km north of Baghdad, said that Resistance fighters had attacked the line at about 1:00am local time on Wednesday. He said that the Resistance fighters detonated a bomb on the pipeline blowing it up and igniting a fire. The Iraqi Resistance attacks that hit pipelines and power stations on Wednesday cut the capacity of the Iraqi national power grid by 10 percent at a time when demand is rising during the summer months.

Iraqi Resistance bomb targets Dutch invader troops near Karbala’ Tuesday.

Agence France Presse (AFP) reported Rahman Mashawi, a Karbala’ puppet police propaganda official, as saying "a bomb that had been planted on the public road three kilometers northwest of Karbala’ exploded as a Dutch military patrol was passing." He said that the blast occurred at about 22:00 local time Tuesday evening. He said that the explosion damaged a military vehicle and a civilian car but caused no casualties.

Poles now admit: "It wasn’t an accident; it was a Resistance mortar attack."

Twenty-four hours after concocting an elaborate story that six East European aggressor troops had been killed in the course of an operation to clear land mines, and then changing the story into a claim that the deaths occurred in the course of an operation to destroy surplus ordnance, Polish aggressor officials changed their line again on Wednesday and admitted that the deaths occurred as a result of a mortar attack by Iraqi Resistance fighters. Polish General Piotr Czierwinski told a press conference in Babil that "there is no doubt that the blast came from a mortar attack." Agence France Presse (AFP) reported that the soldiers who witnessed the attack, in which three Slovak, two Polish, and one Latvian aggressor soldier died, said that they heard the unmistakable whine of mortar shells before the explosions. The Polish aggressor general admitted on Wednesday that at least three mortar rounds exploded near technicians clearing land mines. A fourth mortar shell landed in a pile of ammunition. The attack occurred on Tuesday in an old munitions depot located in as-Suwariyah south of Baghdad. A Polish officer speaking at the press conference in Babil reported that the area was one where there were frequent Iraqi Resistance attacks on invader troops and that the residents of the region were hostile to the occupation troops.
