Al-Hosni vows to prosecute Al-Maliki and Al-Sistani

Middle East Monitor

July 14, 2014

Close sources to the Iraqi Shia cleric Mahmoud Al-Sarkhi Al-Hosni confirmed that he is in good health and in a safe place, accusing the religious authority affiliated with cleric Ali Al-Sistani of being behind the attack on Al-Hosni after he announced his opposition to their cleric.

The same sources also confirmed that they intend to prosecute the Iraqi government for what they described as "its crimes" against Al-Hosni's supporters.

The Director of Al-Hosni's Office of Relations, Muhannad Al-Tay, said the cleric's supporters who refused Al-Sistani's fatwa that encourages fighting the Sunni rebels in the west of the country, have been subjected to what he described as "heinous crimes".

"People do not know anything about their children and the government of Karbala does not want to release the bodies. We demand the Karbala government to give the bodies back to their families without restriction and to officially apologise. We will bring such crimes before the international courts," Al-Tay said.

When asked about the whereabouts of Al-Hosni after the attack, which was carried out by the army on his home in Karbala a few days ago, and whether Al-Sistani had supported the government's efforts against him, he replied: "I do not know his whereabouts, but he is in good health and in a safe place. The religious authority recommended the elimination of Al-Hosni as he is annoying to them because he disagrees with them, he is right and they are wrong. They cannot eliminate the reference of Mr Al-Hosni and his supporters."

Commenting on the army's role in the events, he said: "There is no army because the army protects the people, it doesn't kill them. Those who raided Al-Hosni's place and bombed his home by planes are fanatical militias that are concerned with the elimination of Al-Sarkhi and the Arabic reference."
