We entered the month of September. It is a month that is considered historically bad. Its associations with lots of negative historical dates can be seen on this Palestine calendar http://www.palestinecalendar.org/september.html and on calendars of other countries (Sept. 11, 2001 in the USA, Sept 11, 1973 in Chile etc). But with our efforts we can change these associations and bring positive change in September that we could later celebrate instead of commemorate. To do that we have to start with ourselves.
In my Arabic email sent to a list of some 6500 Arabic speaking people (also posted at http://popular-resistance.blogspot.com/2011/08/blog-post_31. html ) , I wrote about how we need to criticize ourselves and fix our own minds. As the old African Americans saying in the 1950s goes: "Free your mind and your ass will follow!". I would like to share with English speaking people this section from the book "Education and the Significance of Life" by Jiddu Krishnamurti that I think is important to read and relevant to this process of self-improvement: http://www.qumsiyeh.org/educationandthesignificanceoflife/ I remain optimistic about our human condition because thousands of people chose to shed apathy and take matters into our own hands. Here is for example a group of activists articulating a strategy for Palestinian National Libera tion http://www.palestinestrategygroup.ps/
We hear many bad news. "Settlers Plan Attacks Against Palestinians In September" http://www.imemc.org/article/61930 , and Bĺtselem reported on Al-Walaja and the effect of the Israeli (Apartheid) court ruling http://www.btselem.org/separation-barrier/24-aug-11-high-court-approves-separation-barrier-route-al-walajah and a myriad other setbacks for our struggle against racism and apartheid. But there are also people working (mostly behind the scenes) to transform the reality. For example, this week, a BDS victory was achieved when Israeli Philharmonic taken off air by the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14756736
