The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in the at-Ta’mim section of ar-Ramadi as saying that US troops began pulling out of their base in al-Anbar University west of the city, clearing out the vehicles and provisions from inside the base and hauling away the tall cement barricades, barbed wire fences, and spy cameras that used to ring the facility.

The witnesses reported that the Americans had withdrawn more than 100 military vehicles so far and the pull out was still underway.

In a dispatch posted at 8:16pm Makkah time Wednesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier US occupation troops had arrested the Director of Public Health in the Province of al-Anbar along with nine doctors and staff members in the course of a raid on ar-Ramadi General Hospital.

The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a medical source as saying that US occupation troops raided the hospital and smashed most of the contents of the rooms in the al-Anbar Province Health Department before taking the director and various doctors and staff members away with them.

A source who asked not to be identified said that the Americans charged the Public Health Director with providing medical treatment to wounded Resistance fighters and smuggling oxygen cylinders to them so that they could use them in making bombs that targeted US military columns.

The move followed the two-day bombardment of residential areas of the city on Monday and Tuesday that left 37 local civilians dead.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that efforts to search for bodies continued into Wednesday evening, since two people who went missing at the time of the American bombardment have still not been accounted for.

Following their attack on the civilian areas of the city, US forces opened fire on ambulances and fire trucks that were trying to tend to the destruction and to evacuate the dead and wounded, rejecting appeals issued by local mosques to allow emergency vehicles carry out their humanitarian mission.  The initial death toll was 14 people, mostly women and children, their bodies blown apart by the powerful American ordnance.

The source said that the Marines raided several homes in the neighborhood, searching them for weapons or "wanted men."  No pedestrians or cars were allowed in or out of the neighborhood during the offensive.

The neighborhood was still sealed off at the time of reporting so the source had no information regarding the number of arrests or any other outcome of the on-going American raids.
