On October 26, the London based-daily, Al Quds al Arabi, announced the creation of a 25 members Unified Political Command of the Iraqi Resistance. 15 members belong to the external resistance and 10 from inside Iraq. The news seem to have been issued by Abdul Jabbar Al Kubaissi, a long-time Saddam Hussein opponent and spokesman from supposedly "Command". Al Kubaissi has been granted political status refugee in France and leads a small political grouping called the Iraqi Patriotic Alliance (IPA). Among the Resistance organizations which are rhetorically included in the "Command" is: The 1920 Revolution Brigades which soon denied the news and declared that it was an attempt at making theirs the success of the Resistance. Following in the footsteps Associated Press "revealed" that Izzat Ibrahim al Douri, vice president of the Revolutionary Command Council (RCC) and head of the underground Baath Party, had ordered his fellows to abide by a ceasefire (2) in reference to Saddam Hussein's speech for a national reconciliation. Izzat Ibrahim has refuted the news and accused those who spread the news to be in the pay of the United States or of Iran (3). Next a strange development occurred still in Al Quds : a IPA man is said to have met with President Ali Abdullah Salah of Yemen to discuss the latter's proposal to organize in Sanaa a meeting between the Baathist Resistance and the Americans.(4). Izzat Ibrahim would have told IPA that he rejected the invitation.
Questions: Has IPA became the messenger of the underground Baath Party? How is it that its representatives live quietly in Iraq, that the Iraqi "government" issue them with visas while Izzat Ibrahim is wanted?
