Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Sunday, 27 February 2005

...The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in Karbala’ reported on Sunday that a statement circulated in a number of Shi'i husayniyah places of worship in the city contained misinformation and distortions regarding Mafkarat al-Islam’s news coverage, claiming that Mafkarat al-Islam was insulting to the Shi'ah and their religious authorities, saying that it had attacked the Badr Brigades which openly collaborate with the US occupation forces. In a similar fashion, Zionists claim that any attack on "Israel" or the Zionist movement constitutes racist "anti-Semitism"...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Sunday, 27 February 2005

Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice.

Sunday, 27 February 2005.

Al-Fallujah.

Third car bombing in al-Fallujah area in four days takes the lives of another eight American soldiers.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a US military column near as-Saqlawiyah Sunday morning - a town that US forces have been blockading and besieging for four straight days. The local correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a car bomb blew up by a US column of four armored vehicles in the ad-Dahhamiyah area west of as-Saqlawiyah at 8:30am Sunday morning local time. The explosion destroyed one Humvee and disabled a Bradley armored vehicle, killing eight US troops.

Eyewitnesses reported that a Resistance martyrdom fighter took advantage of the slow speed at which the column was traveling through the rough, rocky area to blow up his explosives-laden car by the US column. The local rescue department in an exclusive and official statement to Mafkarat al-Islam confirmed that the attack left eight American soldiers dead and several more wounded.

With the latest car bombing, the correspondent wrote in a dispatch posted at 1:15pm Sunday afternoon Mecca time, there have been three Resistance car bombings in the last four days, killing a total of 17 Americans in the al-Fallujah area.

Hit.

Resistance shoots down American Black Hawk helicopter over northern Hit.

In a dispatch posted at 3:35pm Sunday afternoon, Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported from Hit in western Iraq that Resistance forces a short while before had shot down a US Black Hawk helicopter over the northern neighborhoods of the city.

The correspondent in Hit reported that the aircraft caught fire in the air when it came under fire from all sides. It then plunged to earth, crashing in a powerful explosion. At the time of writing the fate of the crew had not been ascertained, but US troops were searching near the crash site for the crewmen.

Baghdad.

US command sends Iraqi puppet politicians to try to start negotiations with the Iraqi Resistance.

In a dispatch posted at 8:30pm Sunday night Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam in Baghdad reported "reliable" sources as telling Mafkarat al-Islam that US military commanders had sent individuals who enjoy high popularity among Iraqi Sunnis to assert the Americans’ need to negotiate with the Iraqi Resistance.

A commander in the so-called "national accord party," of which outgoing prime minister Iyyad 'Allawi is the leader, held a meeting with the senior correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in Iraq to tell him of the situation.

The party official said that after despairing of being able to use a policy of overwhelming military force in an attempt to root out and destroy the Iraqi Resistance, the Americans directed the Iraqi puppet "government" a few days ago that they must meet with members of the Resistance and former leaders of the Iraqi military as a first step on the way to getting to the real leaders of the Iraqi Resistance to convince them of the need for peaceful negotiations and of the readiness of the United States to make real concessions to them if they i.e., the Resistance pledged to halt all military operations against the US military and the rest of the armies "allied" with the Americans.

In the meeting that took place today, Sunday, the leader chosen as go-between in these contacts said that it was possible that the first concession by the Americans would be to lay down a timetable and a date for the withdrawal of forces from Iraq. He confirmed that the first step in this direction would be taken in al-Anbar Province, which he called the "Mecca of the armed Resistance," adding that al-Anbar has a special tribal makeup and that tribal leaders play a prominent role in their lives. On this basis, it was said, the Iraqi "government" might begin by negotiating with the tribal shaykhs in order to reach a point of understanding as to how to hold meetings with the commanders and leaders of the Resistance.

When Mafkarat al-Islam asked the personality about the statement by the new Iraqi puppet chief of staff who claimed that the Resistance - or what he called "the terrorists" - were breathing their last breaths, the leading individual in the "national accord party" said, "the Resistance now is like water that you try to grasp with your hands, or one could say they are like a shadow of the occupation troops. So wherever you see American forces, there you will find the Resistance. Laughing, he compared it to the children’s game of cat and mouse - "you see a very big and strong cat but as soon as it goes into the house it comes under the painful blows of the small mice."

The source said that the reason why the efforts to carry on negotiations with the Resistance had been so delayed was that the puppet government was busy trying to choose a representative that it could send to such talks. The official expressed the fear that the command of the Iraqi Resistance would refuse to talk or negotiate with the Americans or with the puppet Iraqi "government," explaining that the reason he was frightened of such an eventuality was that the Resistance is now speaking from a position of strength, not weakness.

Resistance bombing leaves 11 American troops dead. Local Iraqis watch horrified as American soldiers treat remains of their fellow troops like garbage.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove a car bomb - apparently loaded with high-explosives - into a US column near the municipal buildings of Abu Ghurayb at about 4:45pm Sunday local time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. The car bomb went off in a huge explosion that destroyed one US tank and disabled a Humvee. Eleven American soldiers were killed instantly and many more wre wounded and evacuated after fighting died down.

Occupation forces then encircled the area and, after the blast evacuated the bodies of their dead - most of them blown to piece and scattered around the area. The correspondent wrote that the local people who gathered after the attack looked on astonished and sickened as one American soldier went around the scene using the bottom of his foot to push body parts and chunks of flesh together in a heap. These were then packed in bags. The correspondent wrote that he saw a soldier throw a part of the body of one of the dead Americans into a sewer opening. Local residents swore to the correspondent that they had seen the Americans do that several times before after other bombings.

US admits one Marine killed in Babil Province on Saturday.

The US military admitted on Sunday that one American Marine had been killed in combat with the Iraqi Resistance in Babil Province south of Baghdad on Saturday, Reuters reported. As usual, the Americans gave no further details.

Resistance group denies US claims that az-Zarqawi’s aide had been captured.

A statement apparently issued by the at-Tawhid wa-al-Jihad Resistance organization run by Abu Mus'ab az-Zarqawi denied claims by Iraqi puppet security officials that they had captured a Resistance fighter who was a close aide to az-Zarqawi. The Agence France Presse (AFP) reported that an Islamic website published a statement that said that all the western reports claiming that the occupation was "tightening a noose" on az-Zarqawi were pure fabrication.

The statement said, "The Crusaders want to cover up their defeats by spreading reports claiming that an aid of Shaykh Abu Mus'ab had been captured." In fact the statement said, "it’s not possible to count all the times they have announced the arrest of aides of az-Zarqawi. In this case it was a lie, which they hope to use to raise the morale of their stooges who are fleeing all the time from the blows of the Resistance."

Ba 'qubah - Diyala Province.

Resistance bombards US base near Iran border early Sunday.

Iraqi Resistance forces on Sunday morning mounted a rocket attack on the US base in Shahraban, east of Ba'qubah near the Iraq-Iran border and adjacent to the al-Mundhiriyah area, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. The correspondent in Shahraban reported that four rockets blasted into the US base, known as the Eastern Base in the city at 4am Sunday local time. The barrage sent plumes of smoke rising into the sky over the facility until 6:30am and helicopters could be seen evacuating casualties.

Resistance group airs video of puppet police official announcing his repentance and urging puppet police and troops to leave their jobs and stop aiding the occupation.

Agence France Presse (AFP) reported Sunday that an Islamic website had broadcast a videotape made by the Base Qa'idah of Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers, which is led by the Jordanian Islamist Abu Mus'ab az-Zarqawi, showing puppet police colonel Salim 'Aziz Salih, the Director of Internal Affairs in the Diyala Province puppet police, who had been captured by the Resistance group. In the film Salih announces his "repentance" and urged all members of the puppet police and the puppet army to leave their jobs because they are "helping the infidel occupiers."

The man, who appeared to be reading a prepared statement said that he had not as yet cooperated or met with the occupation forces nor had he provided them with any information against the Resistance."

Kirkuk - at-Ta’mim Province.

Resistance martyrdom attacker blasts car bomb into US column in Kirkuk.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a US military column made up of several vehicles in the ad-Dibs area north of Kirkuk. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Kirkuk reported eyewitnesses as saying that a Toyota with government license plates blew up by a US column that was heading towards the center of the city. The blast destroyed two US Humvees, killing all aboard them. Witnesses said that the car bomb was driven by a Resistance martyrdom fighter who raced an "crazy" speed into the American column and then blew himself up. The witnesses could not estimate the number of dead that they saw, but noted that all those inside the two Humvees were killed as the vehicles were totally destroyed.

Al-Hillah - Babil Province.

Resistance bomb kills five American troops in al-Hillah.

In a dispatch posted at 6:35pm Mecca time Sunday evening, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Hillah in southern Iraq reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded a short while before by a US column in the al-Musayyib area north of al-Hillah, destroying a US military vehicle and killing five American soldiers.

Eyewitnesses told the correspondent that a high-explosive bomb exploded on 'Ali al-Hilli Street by a US column of several vehicles. After the blast, US troops surrounded the area and, at the time the correspondent filed his report, the Americans were still raiding and searching houses in the vicinity.

An-Nasiriyah - Dhi Qar Province.

Two Italian soldiers killed in Resistance bombing in an-Nasiriyah Sunday morning.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported on Sunday afternoon that eyewitnesses and an official source in the puppet police had said that three Italian occupation troops were killed or wounded when a huge Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded in an-Nasiriyah early Sunday.

The correspondent wrote that the eastern parts of the city were shaken awake by a powerful explosion that a puppet police officer said was the result of a bomb planted on al-Husayn Street in the east of the city. The bomb exploded just as a joint Italian - Iraqi puppet force column was passing by.

The puppet police officer reported that the blast destroyed one Italian armored car and killed two Italian soldiers and moderately wounded a third. Meanwhile, local residents of the area where the bomb went off told the correspondent that the blast took place at 7:30am local time and their stories as to the damage and casualties agreed with the account given by the puppet police officer.

After the blast, the correspondent reported, US and Italian occupation forces encircled the scene of the blast and were still there when he submitted his report, posted at 1:05pm Mecca time Sunday afternoon. The occupation troops also raided several houses in the Suq ash-Shuyukh area, which is predominantly Sunni, taking four persons prisoner. Although the correspondent was unable to ascertain the exact names or charges against the captives, the local, predominantly Shi'i population believes that they were arrested because they were Sunnis and therefore opposed to the occupation.

Karbala’.

Pro-American Shi'i religious authorities launch dirty campaign to criminalize Mafkarat al-Islam, try to get occupation regime to list the website as "terrorist."

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in Karbala’ reported on Sunday that a statement circulated in a number of Shi'i husayniyah places of worship in the city contained misinformation and distortions regarding Mafkarat al-Islam’s news coverage, claiming that Mafkarat al-Islam was insulting to the Shi'ah and their religious authorities, saying that it had attacked the Badr Brigades which openly collaborate with the US occupation forces.

In a similar fashion, Zionists claim that any attack on "Israel" or the Zionist movement constitutes racist "anti-Semitism". By making such claims, attention is drawn away from the activity of the Zionists as colonialists. In this case, attention is being drawn away from the activity of the Badr Brigades as collaborators and stooges of the US occupation by falsely claiming that they are the "victims" of blind sectarian hatred.

In keeping with this confusion of cause and effect, the statement said that Shi'i religious authorities in an-Najaf and Karbala’ had taken the following steps:

1. They ordered that anyone who works with Mafkarat al-Islam should be brought before Shi'i religious courts for punishment,

2. The Shi'i religious authorities issued a legal decision (fatwa) prohibiting any Shi'i to read or look at the contents of the Mafkarat al-Islam website.

3. The authorities resolved to issue propaganda replies to the positions taken by Mafkarat al-Islam that were hostile to the Badr Brigades.

The statement went on to say that in view of the above, from this hour onwards, anyone cooperating with Mafkarat al-Islam will be regarded as a person "wanted" under the laws of heaven and earth. It pledged to work to get the Iraqi puppet regime to lift the permission Mafkarat al-Islam has to cover the news in Iraq on the grounds that it is one of the "terrorist stations" and to prohibit any official from issuing any statement to Mafkarat al-Islam.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam pointed out that the website was far from being hostile to the Shi'ah community. It noted that when the Shi'i Jaysh al-Mahdi fighters loyal to Muqtada as-Sadr were battling the US aggressor troops in the Shi'i holy cities, all the Shi'i religious authorities including 'Ali as-Sistani, the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, the Da'wah Party and others maintained a blackout on news of their struggle, leaving only Mafkarat al-Islam to cover their fight from the ranks of the fighters.

The correspondent noted that Mafkarat al-Islam strove to use professional correspondents of Shi'i background to cover the news from the predominantly Shi'i areas in Iraq, indicating that sectarian prejudice against the Shi'ah was a fabrication made up by those who would cover up their own faults.

The correspondent compared the efforts of those authorities to keep people from reading Mafkarat al-Islam with the efforts by the Christian Church in the European Dark Ages to keep people from reading scientific works for fear that the falsehood of their practices would be exposed and that their real nature would be exposed to their followers. The correspondent wrote that the Shi'i religious authorities were now following the same approach, jumping on the Crusader bandwagon and accusing Mafkarat al-Islam of "terrorism" so as to enlist the official power of the occupation against the news source.

Al-Basrah.

Resistance fighters shoot four Badr Brigade collaborators dead, preventing their attempted murder of Baath Party member.

Armed fighting broke out between Badr Brigade Shi'i chauvinist collaborator gunmen and Iraqi Resistance fighters in the az-Zubayr section of al-Basrah, Mafkarat al-Islam reported Sunday.

The al-Basrah correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the fighting erupted whtn members of the Badr Brigades attempted to assassinate a member of the Baath Party in the city, Khalid Ahmad 'Umar, a Sunni native of al-Basrah. Resistance forces intervened, taking up positions in front of four Badr Brigade gunmen and demanding that they cease what they called "sabotage" and the sowing of sectarian discord. The Resistance fighters prevented the Badr Brigade thugs from getting into the home of the man they had set out to kill.

Neighbors of Khalid 'Umar - both Shi'i and Sunni neighbors - told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Badr Brigade gunmen still insisted on going into the house. All the witnesses agree that the Resistance fighters did not begin to hit the Badr Brigade gunmen until after one of them tried to sneak away to inform British occupation troops and the Iraqi puppet police that there were Resistance fighters in the area. That action forced the Resistance fighters to open fire on the four Badr Brigade gunmen, killing all of them.

After the gunbattle, the Resistance fighters withdrew immediately from the area.

Iraqi puppet police then encircled the area of the fight and hauled away the bodies of the dead gunmen, considering them "martyrs" killed by what they call "terrorists," to use the language employed by an official spokesman in the puppet police who later spoke to Mafkarat al-Islam.

The Badr Brigades are the armed wing of the Shi'i chauvinist so-called Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI). The Brigades joined in the US invasion of Iraq in the spring of 2003 and have since in many cases been incorporated into the puppet police and military forces of the occupation. The Americans have appointed leaders of SCIRI to high posts in the puppet regimes since the invasion of Iraq nearly two years ago.
