Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Saturday, 30 April 2005.

Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice.

Saturday, 30 April 2005.

Al-Anbar Province.

Al-Qa’im.

Resistance attacks US patrol, sparking battle in al-Qa’im Saturday night.

In a dispatch posted at 8:25pm Mecca time Saturday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while before armed clashes had broken out between Iraqi Resistance forces and US occupation troops. The Resistance threw hand grenades and fired pipe rockets at a US patrol that was headed towards the northern part of the city. Preliminary results indicated that the battle was escalating, but the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Qa’im had no more detailed information on casualties to offer.

The correspondent could report, however, that three US vehicles were on fire at that moment.

Al-Hadithah.

US seals off al-Hadithah in apparent preparation for assault.

Dozens of US military vehicles encircled the city of al-Hadithah on all sides, sealing the city and preventing anyone from entering or leaving. In a dispatch posted at 2:02pm Mecca time Saturday afternoon, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported witnesses as saying that US tanks and armored vehicles were at that time encircling the city and demanded the local puppet police come out to them and join their forces as a number of American warplanes and helicopters prowled the skies overhead.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent outside the city confirmed that at the time of reporting, the Americans were digging a large number of trenches and emplacements on the outskirts of the city, just like they did in the city of al-Qa’im, using huge pieces of digging equipment such as steam shovels.

At the time of reporting the Resistance had not yet responded to the serious development. The American siege of al-Hadithah began two hours after a car bomb in the nearby village of Barwanah killed several American troops. (See story below).

Four American troops killed, three wounded in martyrdom car bombing Saturday morning.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove a white Opel loaded with explosives into a US column in the village of Barwanah north of al-Hadithah at 9am Saturday morning, killing four American troops.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported villagers who witnessed the attack as saying that the car raced at high speed into the American forces, breaking into the column and detonating. The blast destroyed one American armored vehicle and damaged another, killing four US troops and wounding another three.

Ar-Ramadi.

Battle erupts Saturday night in ar-Ramadi.

In a dispatch posted at 8:35pm Mecca time Saturday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier violent fighting – the first such in more than two weeks – had broken out between the Iraqi Resistance and US occupation forces in the south of the city of ar-Ramadi.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, who was near the scene of the fighting, reported that Resistance fighters at that moment were waging an intense battle with various weapons against US forces.

The correspondent estimated that more than 40 Resistance fighters were taking part in the combat. US forces, he reported, appeared to be there in force and were firing heavily at the Resistance fighters.

Mosque loudspeakers were broadcasting the Islamic battle cry "Allahu akbar!" ["God is greatest!"] in order to bolster the morale of the Resistance fighters. This is common practice every time the Resistance is involved in a battle with the invader troops. The cries also serve to inform the people of ar-Ramadi, most of whom live far from the scene of the fighting, that a battle is under way in one of the city’s districts, so as to encourage them to offer assistance to the Resistance fighters.

The correspondent noted that it had been reported that the Resistance had shot down an American helicopter a short while earlier, but that report had not at that time been confirmed.

Resistance pounds main US base in al-Anbar Province at dawn Saturday.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired Grad rockets and heavy, 120mm mortar rounds into the main US base headquarters in al-Anbar Province at about 4am Saturday morning. The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Major As'ad 'Irfan of the local puppet emergency forces as saying that 24 mortar rounds and Grad rockets blasted the US al-Warrar base west of ar-Ramadi at dawn Saturday, killing and wounding 29 US troops.

The correspondent reported Major 'Irfan as saying that four American helicopters came in to evacuate the dead and wounded to the US military hospital set up in occupied Baghdad in the facility that was an Iraqi Army facility named Ghalib ibn 'Abdallah al-Laythi Hospital prior to the US invasion.

Witnesses reported seeing dense smoke rising from the base after the Resistance bombardment.

Al-Fallujah.

US lays siege to al-Karmah.

In a dispatch posted at 2:55pm Mecca time Saturday afternoon, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Fallujah reported that US forces had encircled the al-Karmah area east of the city and dropped leaflets from helicopters demanding that Resistance fighters in the besieged area surrender to the invaders. The leaflets also prohibited local residents from leaving their houses, imposing a curfew.

Residents of al-Fallujah reported that a large number of US military vehicles supported by helicopters were surrounding and besieging al-Karmah from all sides.

Baghdad.

Twenty-third car bomb in 38 hours: Sixteen US troops killed in car bomb attack on Abu Ghurayb at shift-change time.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove a gray Supra car packed with explosives into the southern gate to the notorious Abu Ghurayb prison camp at about 7am Saturday morning, and into a large group of US troops gathered for the changing of shifts. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Captain Bahjat Mahmud of the Iraqi puppet army as saying that the blast killed 16 American troops.

The US military admitted that the attack occurred but said only that it inflicted "some losses" in its ranks.

With Saturday morning’s martyrdom car bombing, the number of car bombs that have blasted American and stooge troops rose to 23 car bombs in the last 38 hours. The Iraqi Resistance organization Base [Qa'idah] of the Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers announced its responsibility for the Abu Ghurayb attack in a communiqué a copy of which was received by Mafkarat al-Islam. The communiqué pledged to continue with yet more such attacks, saying that this was a letter to the occupation and puppet "government" on the first day of the campaign.

Two US troops killed in grenade attack in southeast Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 6:28pm Mecca time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance fighter threw a hand grenade into a US Humvee in the al-Baladiyat area of southeast Baghdad on Saturday, killing two US troops and seriously wounding two more. Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that a hand grenade was hurled into a Humvee with four US troops aboard. The witnesses said that the attacker was able to run to a waiting car at the end of the side street and escape pursuing Americans who were firing wildly at him.

Afterwards, the US forces arrested a number of local youths who were standing at the end of the street taking them in for "investigation" in connection with the attack.

Resistance martyrdom bomber kills five US troops in al-Ghazaliyah midday Saturday.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove a blue Caprice loaded with explosives into a US column in the neighborhood of al-Ghazaliyah in western Baghdad at 1pm Saturday local time and blew up. A source in the Iraqi puppet police, who refused to be identified, told Mafkarat al-Islam that the blast destroyed a personnel carrier and set a Humvee ablaze, killing five US troops and wounding four more, most of them severely.

Resistance bomb kills three US troops in ad-Durah midday Saturday.

A high-explosive Iraqi Resistance bomb hidden under a pile of rubbish exploded by US forces on the road where the city electricity generator is located in the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah at 1pm Saturday. A source in the Iraqi puppet police, who refused to release his name, told Mafkarat al-Islam that the blast destroyed one Humvee and killed three US troops and seriously wounded another. The badly wounded man was evacuated by helicopter to Saddam International Airport.

US forces encircled the area, cutting the main road to it, and then launched a campaign of raids of kiosks in the area, accusing their owners of knowing that a bomb had been planted. Meanwhile the Americans hauled away the wreckage of the vehicle using a huge truck, carrying it to their Sukkaniya base in the same area.

Resistance shoots down US helicopter over Abu Ghurayb.

In a dispatch posted at 2:39pm Saturday afternoon Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired a Strela missile and shot down a US helicopter on the northern side of Abu Ghurayb, 30km west of Baghdad. Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the rocket scored a direct hit on the helicopter bringing it down with one of its sides in flames.

The correspondent noted that US forces had earlier brought in spy planes equipped with reconnaissance cameras and two missiles to follow any movements or gatherings of Resistance fighters or to photograph rocket launchers that are more modern than the ones that the Resistance has been using successfully to bring down many US aircraft over past months.

The Iraqi Resistance organization Base [Qa'idah] of the Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers announced its responsibility for the attack in a communiqué, a copy of which was obtained by the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam. The US military for its part admitted that a helicopter had been shot down in a communiqué it released in their headquarters in the area of the Republican Palace in Baghdad, known to the invaders as the "green zone."

Resistance liquidates Baghdad district puppet police commander.

In a dispatch posted at 6:52pm Saturday evening, Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier puppet Brigadier General 'Ala’ Khalil Isma'il, the commander of the puppet police in the ar-Rusafah area of Baghdad, was liquidated by the Iraqi Resistance in the ash-Sha'b neighborhood in eastern Baghdad. The correspondent reported that the puppet police admitted the attack and said that the Resistance fighters attacked the puppet general as he was coming out of his house in the ash-Sha'b neighborhood near the Fawiyzh Mosque.

US admits two Marines killed Friday.

The US occupation forces on Saturday admitted that two American Marines had been killed in a Resistance bombing in the town of ad-Dayrah on Friday, Reuters reported.

Salah ad-Din Province.

Samarra’.

Martyrdom car bomber kills nine US troops in Samarra’.

In a dispatch posted at 10:45am Mecca time Saturday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-laden car into a columns of several US Humvees in the city of Samarra’, blowing up two Humvees and killing all the Americans aboard them. A source in the local puppet police reported that the two vehicles were destroyed and were still burning at the time of reporting and that nine US troops including one interpreter were killed inside them.

US forces were still encircling the whole area and prevented Mafarat al-Islam’s correspondent and the rest of the journalists from taking any pictures, threatening to shoot anyone who came closer than 100 meters.

Balad.

Three US troops killed in Resistance car bombing in Balad Saturday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a joint US-Iraqi puppet column of American Humvees and Iraqi puppet GMCs in the city of Balad, north of Baghdad. A source in the puppet so-called "anti-terrorism" force told Mafkarat al-Islam that the attack took place in the al-'Ummal neighborhood in the west of Balad at 3:30pm local time.

The source said that three US troops were killed and a fourth seriously wounded. Three Iraqi puppet troops were also killed. The blast also disabled a US military vehicle and destroyed an Iraqi puppet GMC.

Babil Province.

Al-Latifiyah.

Two US troops killed in Resistance bombing in al-Latifiyah midday Saturday.

A high-explosive bomb planted in the middle of the road leading to the an-Nasr neighborhood in the middle of al-Latifiyah, south of Baghdad, exploded by a US patrol at about 12 noon Saturday local time. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the bomb disabled one Humvee and killed two US troops and wounded two more.

The correspondent noted that the road where the blast took place is known for attacks on US troops. It is an unpaved dirt road, making it easy for Resistance fighters to plant bombs in the middle of it. For that reason, some three days ago, US forces brought in an engineering unit to pave the road with asphalt and put sidewalks along the sides in an attempt to prevent the Resistance from planting bombs in the sides or in the middle of the road.

Diyala Province.

Al-Miqdadiyah.

Resistance bomb leaves four US troops dead, one seriously wounded in al-Miqdadiyah.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US military column in al-Miqdadiyah, northeast of Ba'qubah on Saturday morning, killing four US troops and seriously wounding one more. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported First Lieutenant Ibrahim Khalil of the al-Miqdadiyah emergency puppet police as saying that the blast resulted from a high-explosive bomb planted by the side of the road leading to the Naft Khanah area, and that it left four US troops from the 5th Division of the American Marines dead and one more "extremely seriously wounded."

In a communiqué, a copy of which was obtained by Mafkarat al-Islam, the Army of the Partisans of the Sunnah [Prophet’s practice] took responsibility for the attack.

Ba'qubah.

Iraqi Resistance pounds US base in Ba'qubah Saturday afternoon.

Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded the US base north of the city of Ba'qubah with heavy mortars on Saturday. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city reported witnesses as saying that the barrage took place at 5pm local time Saturday.

Major Talhat Ahmad of the puppet police told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that the barrage inflicted material damage as well as casualties but declined to offer any further details. The puppet major said that the Americans were able to determine that the Resistance launched its rocket barrage from the Ba'qubah Sports Club Football Stadium. They therefore encircled the stadium and raided it, but found no Resistance attackers nor any rocket launchers or mortars.

Ninwa Province.

Tall 'Afar.

Two car bombs destroy one US armored vehicle, killing six Americans Saturday morning.

Two Iraqi car bombs exploded at the same time by a giant US armored vehicle in the middle of Tall 'Afar in northern Iraq at 8am Saturday morning. The blast destroyed the vehicle, killing six US troops and mortally wounding another, witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam. The correspondent reported that the blood of the soldiers could still be seen on the ground after the occupation forces took away the bodies and wrecked vehicle. Since the attack had become common knowledge, the American invaders admitted that it had occurred, declaring, however, that only three Americans had been killed, minimizing their losses as is the American habit in all attacks in Iraq.

For its part the Islamic Army in Iraq announced its responsibility for the attack in a communiqué, which referred to the attack as "the Double Operation against One Occupation Vehicle."

Mosul.

Midday martyrdom bomb kills a reported seven US troops in Mosul.

In a dispatch posted at 12:34pm Mecca time Saturday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier, an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter driving a pickup loaded with explosives blasted into a US column in the Sumar neighborhood of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. Witnesses said the blast struck a column of several US armored vehicles, destroying two Humvees and killing more than seven American soldiers and wounding others.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Mosul was unable to obtain confirmation of the number of dead from any American or Iraqi puppet representatives because they were still completely encircling the area at the time of writing

Christian missionary offensive said underway in Kurdish areas of Iraq.

The Bahraini newspaper Akhbar al-Khalij reported Saturday that a major Christian missionary offensive is under way in the northern Iraqi provinces where there is a large population of Kurds.

The newspaper reported informed sources in Mosul as saying that an organization calling itself Acorn that is run by the Vatican has been Christianizing dozens of Kurdish Muslims and sending them to Christian missionary courses in special churches, having first attracted them with high salaries of up to US$600 per month. The most outstanding converts are sent to the Vatican for more advanced training, after which they return after a time to the Kurdish areas as missionaries.

The newspaper reported that Acorn had opened three headquarters in the three Kurdish provinces of Irbil, as-Sulaymaniyah, and Dahuk. It also reportedly held a two-day conference for Kurdish Christian missionaries in Irbil on 12 April.

Akhbar al-Khalij reported that many Iraqi political groups warned against such activities, noting that they will cause conflict and dissention between Muslims and Christians with unpredictable results for the region.

American occupation troops retrieve body of dead Marine from banks of Tigris River.

US occupation troops in Mosul on Saturday found the body of a dead Marine in the eastern part of the city.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported sources in the Iraqi puppet police as saying that a local resident had informed them Saturday morning that they had found a body of an American whose throat had been slit. The puppet police, in turn, told the Americans. The source said that the Americans encircled the area and conducted a search and presently found the decomposed body on the banks of the Tigris River.

The source said that it appeared that the Marine had been killed several days ago, since the body was badly decomposed, particularly on its extremities.

The US military had not reported the story as of the time of writing, but the Iraqi puppet police had informed reporters for various local television stations about the discovery.

At-Ta’mim Province.

Kirkuk.

Resistance bombards US base in Kirkuk.

In a dispatch posted at 4:10pm Mecca time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded the US base in Kirkuk with what were believed to be mortar rounds. Local witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam’s correspondent in Kirkuk that they heard eight violent explosions shake the American-occupied facility, after which plumes of smoke rose into the sky over the base.

Iraqi Resistance sharpshooter kills three US troops Saturday afternoon.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the Iraqi puppet police as saying that an Iraqi Resistance sharpshooter shot and killed three US troops who were part of an American foot patrol in Kirkuk at 3pm Saturday afternoon.

The Iraqi Resistance organization Base [Qa'idah] of the Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers announced its responsibility for the shootings in a communiqué, a copy of which the correspondent obtained. The communiqué said that one sharpshooter had killed all three US troops.

Witnesses reported that the third American was not killed immediately by the first shot that struck him and the sharpshooter therefore fired several more rounds into his body. The witnesses said the force of the bullets picked up his body and dumped it back on the ground.

After the attack, US forces surrounded the area and began searching buildings, ascending the tall structures to look for signs of the sharpshooter. All that they found, however, were seven spent shell casings atop one residential building some 300 meters from where the American patrol was.

The US military acknowledged the attack and the three deaths on their propaganda radio beamed at residents of Kirkuk.

Dhi Qar Province.

After the blast US forces encircled the area amidst fears that Resistance actions were rising in southern Iraq.
