The Mafakrat al-Islam correspondent, who was at the scene of the demolition, reported that after they understood that the US troops were determined to destroy their houses, the families asked the soldiers to let them recover their clothes, money, and other things they could carry from the houses before they were bulldozed. The Americans refused to allow that and then beat the 70-year-old woman Hajjah Umm Khalil unconscious after she ran in front of one of the bulldozers.

Resistance commander: we have arms and ammunition enough to fight for years.

In an exclusive interview with Mafkarat al-Islam, Shaykh Abu Muhammad ad-Dulaymi a commander of a fighting unit in the Resistance organization the Brigades of the 1920 Revolution said that the talk that is being spread about the weapons and ammunition of the Resistance running out is nothing but a sign of the growing frustration of the US occupation.

Abu Muhammad told Mafkarat al-Islam that the weapons and ammunition stocks of the Resistance are enough for them to continue fighting for years, not months as the US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld claimed.

"Someone who follows our latest operations will find that they deal heavier blows to the occupation than was the case previously," Shaykh ad-Dulaymi said.

Al-Basrah Province.

Al-Basrah.

Puppet "National Guards" lose 10 men in seven-hour gunbattle with eight Resistance fighters in Safwan area.

Iraqi Resistance forces waged a fierce battle with Iraqi puppet "National Guards" in a farm in the Safwan district, some 50km south of al-Basrah, just north of the Iraqi-Kuwaiti frontier, a source in the puppet "Iraqi Ministry of Defense" told a press conference on Saturday.

The source, as quoted by Quds Press, reported that the battle lasted until the early morning hours of Saturday and that the armament of the Resistance fighters included PKS machine guns and mortars. The source said that 10 puppet "National Guards" were killed in the engagement.

Quds Press quoted the source as saying that the "National Guard" command in al-Basrah learned two days earlier that there was a Resistance group made up of six fighters that were using a farm near Safwan as a base for planning operations in al-Basrah. After confirming a time when the fighters would be gathering at the farm, the source said, a group of the puppet "National Guards" was sent there to attack them.

The "National Guard" attack sparked what turned out to be a seven-hour battle beginning at 11pm on Friday and ending about 6am Saturday morning. Two Resistance fighters were killed in the fighting and three others wounded, the source said, and three other Resistance fighters withdrew from the area after the battle and were the subject of a man hunt by the puppet forces.

The Defense Ministry source who briefed the press conference (but who declined to give his name) claimed that in the course of their operation, the puppet "National Guards" captured a carload of explosive equipment and a large cache of weapons and video tapes. He said that all the fighters were from the al-Basrah area and that preliminary interrogations had already been carried out with the captured fighters, leading them to conclude that five of the fighters were residents of az-Zubayr and the sixth from the al-Hakimiyah neighborhood.

The spokesman admitted that the puppet "National Guards" lost ten of their own men killed in the operation, Quds Press reported.

Quds Press added that the al-Basrah area had been tense in recent days following repeated raids and arrests in Sunni neighborhoods by the puppet security forces in the city.

Sunni Shaykh found dead following abduction by puppet police Friday night.

The Sunni Imam of the Mosque of al-`Asharah al-Mubashsharah in al-Basrah, Shaykh Nadir Karim, was found dead after being arrested in a puppet police raid on his home at 8pm Friday night.

Eyewitnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that Iraqi puppet police forces in al-Basrah raided the shaykh's home, beat him, and led him away. Exactly two hours later his body was found in the English Cemetery in the east of the city (an abandoned cemetery for British troops killed in the First World War).

It was the second such apparent sectarian killing in a week, the first being the assassination of Khalil Ibrahim, the Imam of the al-Mustafa Mosque in Khawr az-Zubayr.

Iranian agents said inside Iraq to order assassinations. Source says Badr Brigades involved in death of US journalist Steven Vincent in August.

A source in the puppet security services working with the British occupation troops in al-Basrah told Mafkarat al-Islam that the intelligence services had been observing three Iranian agents who entered Iraq illegally two days before.

The source, who asked not to be named, told Mafkarat al-Islam that the puppet provincial intelligence agency knew that the Iranian intelligence agents had entered al-Basrah about a week earlier. The source said that information leaked by one of the Shi`i religious organizations in the city indicated that the Iranians were bringing instructions to their agents in Iraq on carrying out assassinations of several Sunni personalities in al-Basrah, among them journalists and religious leaders.

The source said that the puppet security service was observing the spies and had raided a house in the Five Mile area where they believed the three agents had been.

The same source said that they had information that the pro-American Shi`i sectarian Badr Brigades were involved in the August 2 killing of the American journalist Steven Vincent. The source said that the order to kill Vincent had come directly from Abu Hamzah, the Badr Brigade officer in charge of assassinations.
