Fierce fighting breaks out in western Baghdad’s al-Ghazaliyah
Saturday evening as Resistance fighters attack US and puppet "National Guard"
forces trying to storm the district. Resistance fighters disengage and slip
away when US brings in air cover and reinforcements.
In a dispatch posted at 8:50pm Makkah time Saturday night,
Mafkarat al-Islam reported that at the time of reporting fierce fighting
was raging between Iraqi Resistance forces and US occupation troops together
with their puppet "Iraqi National Guard" allies in the western Baghdad area of
al-Ghazaliyah.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported
residents of al-Ghazaliyah as saying that the fighting began when Resistance
forces attacked a joint group of US and Iraqi puppet troops who were storming
into al-Ghazaliyah. The Resistance attackers, who were equipped with machine
guns, shoulder launched missiles and locally-made pipe rockets, set three US
Humvees and two Iraqi puppet "National Guard" pickups ablaze in their attack.
Because of the curfew that was in force and the generally dangerous situation,
the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent was unable to ascertain the number of

reinforcements moved in, trying to entrap the Resistance fighters.

source in the Resistance as saying that despite their large numbers, air support
and tactic of sealing the entire area on all sides, the Americans and their
allies failed to capture any of the Resistance fighters.
The source said that US forces deployed large numbers of
military vehicles in the area of al-Ghazaliyah’s mosques near the scene of the
fighting, thinking that the Resistance fighters might attempt to take refuge in
the places of worship.
At the time of reporting, US troops and their Iraqi stooges
were searching all the houses in the neighborhood, pulling the men aside and
putting a yellow chemical powder on their hands that indicates if they have
fired weapons or handled explosives in recent hours. This is now a routine
practice of the American military after every battle in which the Resistance
fights US forces if the Americans have otherwise failed to capture anyone they
believe was connected with the fighting.
At the time of reporting, US troops were hauling away the
hulks of their wrecked vehicles to wipe clear all traces of their losses in the
fighting, lest the burned out vehicles by photographed by journalists after the
curfew is lifted Sunday morning.
