Ar-Ramadi.
US occupation forces stage massive raids, searches and
arrests in ar-Ramadi beginning at midnight and into Tuesday morning following
disappearance of American troops on Monday in heavy fighting.
In a dispatch posted at 6:20pm Makkah (Mecca) time Tuesday
afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation forces had
launched a campaign of mass raids, searches, and arrests in ar-Ramadi, about
110km west of Baghdad.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported
eyewitnesses in ar-Ramadi as saying that US troops surrounded the neighborhood
of at-Ta’mim, the ath-Thilah district, 17 July Street, 20 Street, and the al-Mal'ab
("playing field") areas of the city around midnight Monday-Tuesday, and began
storming into houses detonating percussion grenades and setting off explosives
that they planted at doorways to blow people’s houses open.
Local witnesses said at the Americans attacked and beat the
men in the houses they raided. They threw the women out in the street and them
smashed furniture in the houses. Dozens of local people were arrested on
charges of being opposed to the American occupation forces. Local people
confirmed to Mafkarat al-Islam that none of the people arrested by the
Americans were members of the Resistance.
US forces continued on Tuesday to search for American
troops that "went missing" on Monday according to an American military
announcement reported by Quds Press. The American military had declared
that the US troops went missing in the course of a "traffic accident" that left
five other American Marines dead in al-Anbar Province west of Baghdad.
According to US military announcements reported by Quds
Press, the Americans have lost a total of 18 men over the last three days.
The latest such American admission came in a statement issued early Tuesday that
said that nine US troops had been killed on Monday. Two other American soldiers
were admitted killed when a US Apache helicopter was shot down near al-Yusufiyah
on Saturday.
Sources close to the Iraqi Resistance told Quds Press
that fighting raged in ar-Ramadi on Monday until it finally died down at about
8pm local time Monday evening. The sources told Quds Press that
Resistance fighters attacked the Americans in their headquarters in the old
Provincial Government building and the Immigration Building in downtown
ar-Ramadi, sparking violent fighting. The Americans called in helicopters but
had difficulty using them because the Resistance fighters were engaged in
relatively close combat with the Americans, too close to the US positions to
allow for extensive use of American airpower.
The sources told Quds Press that the fighting on
Monday ended with a number of US vehicles burned and numerous US troops killed
or wounded. The sources noted that the Americans in their headquarters in the
former Provincial Government building have now become virtually daily targets of
Resistance attacks.
