Attacks on US forces, Iraqi police soar

Truth about Iraqis

April 15, 2006

Over the past few days, the US military has engaged "the enemy" in several skirmishes, ambushes and attacks mostly in the Anbar province.

These are isolated incidents, but seem to be part of a new campaign of attacks against US forces.

On Thursday, the US military reported two personnel killed and a further 22 wounded in what appeared to be a singular incident.

Associated Press writer Vanessa Arrington said: "It was the biggest number of American casualties reported from a single engagement in weeks."

Two of the wounded were in critical condition, while some others among them returned to duty. The US military did not provide any more information.

This indicates that there was a serious military engagement.

Chinese newspaper People's Daily also reported:

"Insurgents on Thursday fired rockets and mortar rounds at a U.S. military base near the restive city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of Baghdad, witnesses said.

"Insurgents fired two rockets at 6:00 a.m. (0200 GMT) and three mortar rounds 90 minutes later, at Habaniyah military base, which houses U.S. and Iraqi forces," witnesses told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

They said they heard loud explosions and sirens in the base and saw U.S. helicopters hovering over the area around the base.

The US military had no comments about the attacks".

It is not known if the two attacks mentioned here are related.

In the past 14 days, most of the US casualties have come from the Anbar province.

In early April, the US military was able to thwart what its personnel termed an organized and coordinated attack in Ramadi. At the time, it was reported that some 100 "insurgents" were involved in the attacks.

Attacks against Iraqi police, commando units, suspected death squads and army units have also increased significantly in the past two weeks.

Zarqawi returns to hell

The new wave of attacks coincides with three reports relating to the terrorist anti-Iraqi mongrel known as Abu Musab Al Zarqawi.

In March, the US military said Zarqawi was not leading the "Iraq unrest" (is that what they call it in Washington these days?).

On April 2nd, the son of Osama bin Laden's mentor (talk about six degrees of separation here) said Zarqawi was no longer leading the "resistance" and was "sacked for mistakes".

On April 6th, the US military announces the capture of Abu Ayman, another mongrel aide to Zarqawi (how many does that make?).

On April 10th, the Washington Post, citing US military sources, reported that a propaganda campaign may have raised al-Zarqawi's profile and overstated his importance.

Any Iraqi could have told you that. When some 100 attacks were reported in Iraq every day, US media and the military blamed them all on Zarqawi. Omnipresent, the mongrel was?

A few days after this report emerged, US military personnel, perhaps embarrassed by the Zarqawi scheme, said he had conceded defeat in Iraq and had fled the country.

Quaint. So, how much of his significance was overplayed? US media quoted US officials as saying Zarqawi personally beheaded poor Nicholas Berg.

Another question, if the significance of Zarqawi was overplayed, does that mean the capture of his 100,000 lieutenants was also a figment of some propagandist's imagination?

The debacle in Iraq is become worse by the day.

US generals, some of whom are decent patriotic men, have been calling for Rumsfeld (who has never seen action) to be sacked.

Lil George of Crawford (who has never seen action) stood by his man.

Fealty, sure is a good thing.
