In a dispatch posted at 6:40pm Makkah time Monday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier fighting broke out between Iraqi Resistance forces and US occupation troops in the city of ar-Ramadi, about 110km west of Baghdad.

The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that dozens of Resistance fighters were in combat with US troops at the time of reporting.  Fighting was underway in the al-'Aziziyah area opposite the al-Anbar provincial government building, which the Americans have turned into one of their local headquarters.

The correspondent reports that it appears that the Resistance was attempting to storm the provincial government building.  More than 20 mortar rounds and a number of rockets had blasted into the building, driving the American troops out of the facility into the open street where they engaged the Resistance in battle.

In a dispatch posted at 7:05pm Makkah time Monday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier fighter bombers had appeared in the skies over ar-Ramadi and begun indiscriminately rocketing targets all over the city

The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the city market and areas around the provincial government building had come under intense American bombardment.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent was initially unable to obtain any information on the nature or extent of civilian casualties as a result of the wild American air offensive because no medical or first aid team appeared to be on the scene.

In a dispatch posted at 7:50pm Makkah time Monday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a US warplane had rocketed a center for Qur’an study in the middle of ar-Ramadi as the indiscriminate American air assault continued Monday evening.

In a dispatch posted at 4pm Makkah time Monday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that crowds of residents of the city of ar-Ramadi turned out to say their final farewells to 13 of their neighbors killed in the American air and artillery attacks on the civilian population on Sunday.

The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the 13 victims of the American attacks, among them three women and one child, were laid to rest in the ar-Ramadi Martyrs Cemetery.  All the victims were killed on Sunday afternoon when the Americans turned their guns on civilian houses in eastern ar-Ramadi, claiming that the private homes were "nests of al-Qa'idah fighters."

The correspondent reported a medical source in ar-Ramadi as saying that the total number of civilians killed in the city since the Americans began their offensive on Wednesday last week has now reached 44, including several women and children.  In addition, the doctor said, there have been dozens of wounded, all of them as a result of American air raids or gunfire during battles.  He explained that the Americans have adopted a tactic of opening fire on civilians when they come under Resistance attack in an attempt to impel the Resistance fighters to call off attacks rather than let the Americans kill the innocents.

American troops massacre 25 villagers near al-Latifiyah Saturday night, Muslim Scholars of Iraq declares.

US troops accompanied by puppet "Iraqi National Guards" massacred more than 25 Iraqi villagers in the area near al-Latifiyah, about 30km south of Baghdad in operations they carried out late on Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

The Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq, the highest Sunni religious authority in the occupied country, issued a statement on Monday denouncing the savage American assault.

The statement recounted how American helicopters began an air assault on the homes of residents of the Shakhat Wahid area near al-Latifiyah at 10pm local time Saturday night (13 May 2006).  The attack was so ferocious that the villagers fled their homes to take refuge in the fields and furrows nearby.  Then about seven helicopters then appeared and landed, disgorging US soldiers who chased down the villagers who had fled from the hellish rocket fire targeted on their homes.

The Association statement said that "as soon as they caught anyone, they killed him, until the number of victims totaled more than 25 martyrs.  They then arrested six more villagers, among them two women – Isra’ Mahmud Hasan and Widad Ahmad Hasan – as well as a little girl, named Huda Haytham Muhammad Hasan, whose father was killed by the rocket attack."

"These forces did not put an end to their crimes at that point," the statement continued, "but at 4am this morning resumed their savage campaign against the same area, backed up by government "Guards" once again, raiding the local people’s houses and arresting a number of them and driving out the others, after which they turned the homes into sniper outposts."

The Association of Muslim Scholars denounced this latest American crime and noted that it clearly indicated the moral defeat that the US troops had suffered as they now go through the last period before their final departure from Iraq.
