Baghdad.
Deputy Premier of Iraq and American POW Tariq 'Aziz
tells US-run show 'trial’ to put puppet prime minister on trial for his party’s
murders in 1980s.
In a dispatch posted at 11:30am Makkah time Wednesday
morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister
Tariq 'Aziz testified at the US-run showcase "trial" of Iraqi President Saddam
Husayn on Wednesday.
Mafkarat al-Islam reported news media reports as
saying that 'Aziz, who was brought in as a witness for the defense, testified in
the matter of 148 residents of the town of ad-Dujayl who took part in an
Iranian-backed plot to kill the President and overthrow the regime in 1982.
Prior to the testimony of Deputy Premier Tariq 'Aziz, the
Iraqi President Saddam Husayn addressed the court to point out that he had not
directed either Barzan at-Tikrity or Taha Yasin Ramadan – both fellow prisoners
and "co-defendants" in the case to take hands in the ad-Dujayl case.
According to the American Associated Press (AP), the Iraqi
President told the "court": "This issue took its normal path. The security
service is in charge of Iraqis inside Iraq, while the Intelligence was in charge
of foreigners inside Iraq and Iraqis outside Iraq. I did not order either Taha
or Barzan in the ad-Dujayl case. . . . Why accuse Taha and Barzan in such a
wrong way?" Saddam Husayn asked, indicating that the matter concerned the
officials in charge of the security service, not Barzan at-Tikriti or Taha Yasin
Ramadan who were involved with Intelligence.
In his testimony, Deputy Premier Tariq 'Aziz pointed out
that the 1982 plot against the Iraqi President and the Iraqi government had been
organized and carried out by the pro-American Shi'i sectarian Da'wah Party. The
leaders of that party include outgoing, US-installed puppet "Prime Minister"
Ibrahim al-Ja'fari and current puppet "Prime Minister" Nuri al-Maliki.
Deputy Prime Minister 'Aziz noted that the ad-Dujayl polt
was "part of a series of attacks and assassination attempts by this group,
including against me." 'Aziz noted that the sectarian Da'wah Party had carried
out numerous bloody attacks in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In 1980 agents
of the Da'wah Party threw a hand grenade at him when he was on a visit to
Baghdad’s al-Mustansiriyah University, killing innocent civilians around him.
Deputy Prime Minister 'Aziz told the "court": "I am a
victim of a criminal act perpetrated by this party, which is in power right
now. So put it on trial. Its leader was the 'prime minister’ and his deputy is
the 'prime miniser’ right now and they killed innocent Iraqis in 1980."
The Deputy Prime Minister Tariq 'Aziz reminded the "court"
that the execution of the ad-Dujayl Putschists was in response to an
assassination attempt. "If the head of state comes under attack, the state is
required by law to take action. If the suspects are caught with weapons, it is
only natural that they should be arrested tried," he declared.
The Wednesday session of the American-sponsored show
"trial" was the 28th such session since the proceedings began on 19
October 2005.
