Yemen: Houthi group calls for supporting Al-Assad regime

Yemen Post

February 19, 2012

A preacher of the Houthi group called during the last Friday sermon in Sana'a to support Al-Assad regime with money and weapons, pointing out that the regime fights Jews and traitors.

Yemeni news reports said on Sunday that the Houthi group sent dozens of its elements to fight in Syria with Al-Assad regime.

They said these fighters are sent under strict confidentiality, pointing out that the Houthi group adopted the same approach of the Lebanese Hizballah and Iran that they are concerned about the ouster of Al-Assad.
A Kuwaiti newspaper, Alsyaisa affirmed that the Houthi group recruited Yemenis in return for three thousand US dollar per month.

Yemeni analysts said the Houthi attitudes reflect Iran's positions that stands by Al-Assad in killing his people.

Operatives of Iran's Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah assist Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad in his brutal crackdown of protesters who demand the ouster of Al-Asad who committed massacres against the Syrians.

Separately, the Yemeni authorities have seized a weapon-loaded Iranian ship while it was en route to the Houthi fighters nearby the Hodeidah port, a Saudi newspaper, Alwatan, said last weeks.

In a statement, Houthis called for boycotting the presidential elections due to be held on February 21, dubbing them as an American plan to undermine the Yemeni revolution.
Several ambassadors of the European Union met Wednesday in Saada the leader of the Houthi group Abdul-Malik Al-Haouthi in attempt to convince the group to vote.

However, the Houthi group said that the it would boycott the elections and would not commit any acts to disturb them.
Yemeni tribes accused the Houthi group of attacking their areas with the aim of expanding and controlling some district of Hajja and other governorates.
