Baghdad.
Confessionalist violence sweeps Baghdad as pro-American Shi'i sectarians
observe anniversary of death of medieval Imam with rampages against
Sunni targets in Baghdad, sparking clashes, shootings in many Baghdad
districts.
Western media under the control of the US occupation authorities
extensively reported official puppet regime announcements of Sunni
shooting attacks on Shi’i pilgrims during the day Sunday, a day when
Shi'i pilgrims flocked to the tomb of their Imam Musa al-Kazim (who died
in 799 C.E.) while Sunni neighborhoods in the Iraqi capital suffered
under the third consecutive day of government lockdown and curfew, some
of them also deprived of running water at the height of a stifling
summer.
Attacks on Shi'ah were in fact only one side of a picture of rampant
sectarian violence instigated by Shi'i sectarians intent on sparking
confessionalist conflict and splitting Iraq on religious and ethnic
lines, in keeping with a partition plan supported by imperial
politicians in Washington, London, and Tel Aviv.
In a
dispatch posted at 7:35pm Sunday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam
offered readers a compilation of incomplete reports submitted by
correspondents in various parts of Baghdad, indicating that the shooting
incidents of Shi'i pilgrims took place in the midst of an extensive
campaign of Shi'i militia attacks on numerous Sunni neighborhoods,
mosques, and individuals, leaving dozens dead and historic buildings
destroyed.
Correspondents for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that at 3am, before
dawn on Sunday morning local time, armed Shi'i sectarian militia gangs
attempted to dig up the grave of Abu ath-Thana’ al-Alusi, a famous Sunni
Iraqi religious scholar, but local residents rose and beat off the
attackers, who left behind four guns and a number of picks.
Then
at 5:45am local time Sunday morning, pro-American Shi'i sectarian Badr
Brigade militiamen under the command of the Imam of the Shi'i Buratha
Mosque, Jalal as-Saghir, attacked the Sunni al-Masarif Mosque, the Sunni
Mosque of al-Khatun, and the Sunni Mosque of al-'Aquli in Baghdad’s
al-Fadl district which lies next to ar-Rusafah. The attackers killed a
number of local residents and burned down parts of the mosques.
At
8am Sunday morning, Shi'i sectarian militia gangs broke the water main
serving the Sunni al-A'zamiyah district of Baghdad, cutting off running
water to thousands of Sunni residents of the district. Sunday evening,
the district still had no running water.
At
10am local time Sunday morning, Shi'i sectarian militia gangs armed with
medium machine guns attacked the Sunni an-Nu'aym Mosque in the ash-Sha'b
district of Baghdad. Local residents beat back the sectarian attackers,
but the mosque sustained such heavy damage that it will not be open for
worship for several days until repairs can be completed.
At
11am local time Sunday morning, Shi'i sectarian militia gangs attacked
the Sunni Mosque of ar-Rahman ar-Rahim in ar-Rusafah. Local residents
beat back the attackers, killing five of them and setting fire to one of
their cars as they fled the scene.
At
12:30pm midday Sunday, a large number of Shi'i sectarian militia gang
members armed with a variety of weapons attacked the Sunni ar-Rashidi
Mosque in the Bab ash-Sham district of Baghdad. The sectarians
kidnapped the Imam of the mosque and his family and set fire to the
house of worship.
At
2pm Sunday afternoon, Shi'i sectarian militiamen attacked the Sunni
al-Janabi Mosque on Palestine Street in the occupied Iraqi capital,
stealing all the furnishings in the place of worship, including the
carpets, and setting fire to the building. The attackers wrote in clear
letters on the door of the mosque: " The Mosque of Imam Musa al-Kazim."
At
3pm local time Sunday afternoon, Shi'i sectarian gang members attacked
the Mosque of the 'al-'Asharah al-Mubashshirin in occupied Baghdad’s
ar-Rusafah district, stealing the furnishings and kidnapping three
mosque caretakers in full view of Iraqi puppet regime troops.
At
4pm Sunday, the bodies of four slaughtered Sunnis were found dumped in
Baghdad’s ash-Sha'b district. The four – 'Umar Husayn ad-Dulaymi, Lu’ay
Karim ad-Darraji, Sa'd Nahi al-Karbuli, and 'Umar Sabah al-'Ani – had
been beaten to death with large hammers. The eldest of the four, 'Umar
al-'Ani was only 25 years old and had been married just last Thursday.
At 6pm local time Sunday
afternoon, rampaging Shi'i sectarian gunmen returning from religious
observances around the tomb of the Eighth-Century Shi'i Imam Musa
al-Kazim, butchered three Sunni families in Baghdad’s al-Waziriyah
district.
The
correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as
saying that gangs of Shi'i sectarian gunmen set upon three adjacent
houses in al-Waziriyah behind the at-Tali'ah Theater. The gunmen burst
into the houses and slaughtered most members of the families, including
the women and children.
The
witnesses said that the sectarians would have carried on murdering local
people but that US occupation troops happened upon the scene and the
gunmen ran away.
At 6:30pm local time
Sunday, Shi'i militia gangs, returning from Imam Kazim religious
observances and armed with light and medium machine guns, rampaged
through a Sunni mosque in the as-Salikh area of al-A'zamiyah, killing
the caretaker al-Hajj Mansur.
The
sectarian militia gangs inflicted serious damage on the building in full
view of puppet "Iraqi Interior Ministry Shock Troops (Maghawir)." The
attack sparked a gun battle as local residents rose in arms to defend
their district against the marauders, shooting the Shi'i sectarian
attackers in the streets and from the rooftops of their homes.
Shi'i sectarian pilgrims took part in other provocative activities as
they proceeded towards al-Kazimiyah through Sunni neighborhoods. Crowds
of Shi'i sectarians marching through al-A'zamiyah, reportedly pelted the
tomb of Sunni Imam Abu Hanifah an-Nu'man (699-765 C.E.) – who ironically
was a friend of the Shi'i Imam Ja'far as-Sadiq, the father of Shi'i Imam
Musa al-Kazim – with stones and shoe. Sectarian processions wound
through Sunni districts shouting insults at revered figures in Sunni
religious history, including 'A’ishah, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad,
and the first three leaders of the Islamic world after the Prophet’s
death.
Pro-American Shi'i sectarian militias attack
Baghdad’s Sunni al-A'zamiyah district Sunday morning, prompting gun
battles, reported deaths among Shi'i pilgrims.
Eariler, in a dispatch posted at 12:05pm Makkah time midday Sunday,
Mafkarat al-Islam reported that pro-American Shi'i sectarian
militiamen had been raiding and searching the as-Salikh area of
al-A'zamiyah in western Baghdad since Sunday morning.
The
correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the
pro-American Shi'i sectarian gangs were using all sorts of weapons,
while local residents of al-A'zamiyah and some Resistance members were
defending the predominantly Sunni district with what weapons they had at
their disposal. As of the time of reporting, the sectarian militias had
not been able to achieve any notable success against the defenders of
al-A'zamiyah.
Large numbers of American aircraft were prowling the skies overhead but
were not intervening to stop the sectarian militia assault on
al-A'zamiyah as the media had been claiming. Nor were the puppet
regime’s troops anywhere to be seen, as they were all protecting the
Shi'i pilgrims to the shrine of their Imam Musa al-Kazim, the
anniversary of whose death in the year 799 C.E. is marked on Sunday.
Then
In a dispatch posted at 12:23pm Makkah time midday Sunday, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that fierce fighting had just broken out and was
still raging at that time between residents of al-A'zamiyah and the
Jaysh al-Mahdi Shi'i sectarian militia in the al-Kari'at and
as-Sarrafiyah Bridge area.
The
correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that no further
details on the fighting were available because a curfew is in force in
the area, and because US armored vehicles had moved in and blocked
reporting.
In a
dispatch posted at 1:20pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that the puppet "Iraqi Health Ministry" had said
that 15 Shi'i pilgrims to the tomb of Musa al-Kazim had been killed and
200 wounded in various attacks on them that took place in spite of
curfews on Sunni areas and other stringent security measures.
The
correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported puppet regime
spokesman Qasim Yahya 'Allawi as saying that most of the attacks on
Shi'i pilgrims took place when they were crossing the regions adjacent
to the Baghdad district of al-Kazimiyah.
Puppet police sources said that shots were fired at Shi'i pilgrims and
at puppet policemen in the as-Salikh area of al-A'zamiyah, the scene of
an attack by Shi'i sectarian militia gunmen on the neighborhood and its
defenders Sunday.
Puppet police and puppet traffic wardens exchanged gunfire with local
armed defenders for half an hour prompting the Shi'i pilgrims to take
the highway to their shrine rather than the route through al-A'zamiyah.
Mysterious fire breaks out in Shi'i al-Kazimiyah
district amidst throngs of Shi'i pilgrims.
In a
dispatch posted at 1:32pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that fires and thick smoke were engulfing the
al-Astirbadi Market in the middle of the predominantly Shi'i district of
al-Kazimiyah where the tomb of the Eighth-Century Shi'i Imam Musa
al-Kazim is buried. At the time of the fires, the market was crowded
with Shi'i pilgrims visiting the shrine to commemorate the anniversary
of the death of the Imam.
The
correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported from an-Nuwwab
Square in the middle of al-Kazimiyah that ambulances, puppet security
men, and US occupation forces were rushing to the scene. The cause of
the fire remained unknown. The correspondent denied reports that there
had been explosions prior to the outbreak of the fire.
In a
dispatch posted at 1:47pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that Dr. Husyan al-Hilli, the Deputy Diretor of
al-Kazimiyah General Hospital announced that the number of dead and
injured Shi'i pilgrims as of 2pm local time Sunday was 233.
The
correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported from the hospital in
al-Kazimiyah, that the facility was crowded with dead and wounded and
that therefore the casualties were being distributed around various
hospitals in the occupied Iraqi capital, since facilities in the
al-Kazimiyah district were not adequate.
Brigadier General Jabir Muhammad, a puppet official in charge of
operations in al-Kazimiyah, gave a statement to the media saying that
the dead and wounded had fallen in various parts of Baghdad and had not
all been killed or wounded near the Sunni al-A'zamiyah district as had
been reported.
The
puppet official said that there had been small-arm and sharpshooter
attacks on Shi'i pilgrims on Saturday and Sunday, despite the curfew
imposed on Sunni parts of the city and the other heightened security
measures. The puppet official said that attacks took place in the
districts of al-Fadl, al-Jihad, and Hayfa.
Sunni puppet politician denounces double standard by puppet "Ministries"
in reporting victims of Sunday’s sectarian violence.
In a
dispatch posted at 1:15am Monday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam
reported that pro-American Sunni politician 'Ala’ Makki, who is a member
of the American installed puppet "parliament," denounced the "double
standard" adopted by the Iraqi puppet "Ministries of Health and the
Interior" in "talking only about the dead among the Shi'i pilgrims to
the tomb of the Imam Musa al-Kazim but say nothing about the victims who
fell as a result of attacks carried out by Safavi Shi'i militias on
Sunni mosques."
Makki, speaking on official Baghdad television, called on the two puppet
"Ministries" to make public the toll of victims killed by Shi'i
sectarians on Sunday, and not simply talk about the 20 Shi'ah reportedly
shot to death during the day under various circumstances.
Young Shi'i pilgrim leaps to his death from
as-Sarrafah Bridge under claimed "inspiration from the Expected Mahdi."
In a
dispatch posted at 3:03pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that a Shi'i youth who was among throngs of Shi'ah
pilgrims to the tomb of Musa al-Kazim drowned himself in the Tigris
River after telling fellow pilgrims that he was receiving an urgent call
from the Shi'i eschatological figure the Expected Mahdi who is supposed
to come at the end of time and usher in a golden age.
The
Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses
as saying that the other pilgrims tried to stop the youth, who was
dressed in black and wore a green headband reading "Oh Supporter of the
Family of Muhammad " (A reference to the Shi'i Mahdi) from jumping from
the as-Sarrafah Bridge, the highest Bridge in Baghdad into the Tigris
River. The youth convinced the pilgrims who gathered around him,
however, that the Expected Mahdi had inspired him to jump and that he
was longing to meet the Mahdi.
Witnesses said that puppet River Police fished the body of the youth out
of the Tigris two kilometers downstream from the bridge.

religious leaders who support the Resistance to the American occupation.

the land of Iraq."
