Extremely fierce fighting in al-Qa’im as US troops attack from all sides of city and US warplanes pound free al-Qa’im from the air.

In a dispatch posted at 9:35am Mecca time Wednesday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that for the third straight day extremely violent fighting was raging in the city of al-Qa’im on the border with Syria. Iraqi Resistance fighters were battling groups of American commandos and Marines on the western, eastern, northern, and southern approaches to the city that liberated itself from the American occupation last week.

The US occupation troops crossed the administrative boundaries of al-Qa’im, 3km from the city, after mounting intensive air raids in which US F16 and F18 warplanes dropped bombs and fired rockets into the city.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported sources in the Iraqi puppet forces as saying that the Resistance had shot down two US Apache helicopters at dawn Wednesday morning, prompting US ground forces to beat a retreat and send in fighter bomber aircraft instead.

A spokesman for the Iraqi puppet forces admitted that 36 US vehicles were totally destroyed in the dawn battles on Wednesday and during Tuesday-Wednesday night. The smoldering wreckage of those vehicles still can be seen on the outskirts of al-Qa’im. The puppet spokesman also acknowledged that 71 US troops have been killed in the American attack on the city.

US forces pushed back from positions east of al-Qa’im.

In a dispatch posted at 12:30pm Mecca time Wednesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US forces had withdrawn from the areas that they had seized control of to the east of al-Qa’im after vicious fighting. The US military acknowledged their withdrawal in a statement issued shortly before the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent filed his report.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported a US general as saying that American commandos and Marines had withdrawn from eastern parts of al-Qa’im after a battle that lasted four hours in which, the American general said, the US side lost "many of our soldiers."

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Iraqi Resistance had completely redeployed in those areas on the eastern side of al-Qa’im.

The Iraqi Resistance announced for its part that 30 Resistance fighters had been martyred during the fighting that has raged since the day before yesterday (i.e., since Monday, 11 April 2005.) The Resistance statement said that 12 of the martyred fighters were fraternal Arab volunteers from the Arabian Peninsula, Syria, and Egypt.

Head of al-Qa’im Hospital: US using internationally prohibited weapons in attacks on city.

In a dispatch posted at 12:45pm Mecca time Wednesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Director of al-Qa’im Hospital, Dr. 'Abd ar-Rahman Muhammad, a short while earlier had announced that US forces used internationally prohibited weapons in their attacks on al-Qa’im Wednesday morning.

Dr. Muhammad told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Americans drooped 40 container bombs loaded with cluster bombs and more than 30 incendiary bombs, in addition to releasing very large amounts of a narcotic gas affecting the nervous system, and paralyzing the fighters. Besides that, Dr. Muhammad said, the US also used mustard gas.

Dr. Muhammad said that he wished to expose what he called the "dirty" methods of the US forces, warning of the humanitarian consequences if the Americans continue on their present course. On Tuesday US aircraft destroyed the city’s drinking water tanks and blew up food storage lockers for the people of al-Qa’im. Dr. Muhammad warned that more than 25,000 women, children, and elderly people would die of starvation if the situation continues unchanged.

Dr. Muhammad called on Arab and Muslim countries to put a stop to the American practices, to intervene as quickly as possible. He declared that he had no hope that the Iraqi puppet regime would intervene, saying that it was the regime that "gave the blind knife to the American forces so they could butcher Iraqis."

Flying Christian flags, massive US armored columns head towards al-Qa’im.

In a dispatch posted at 1:55pm Mecca time Wednesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that reports coming in from ar-Ramadi indicate that massive columns of US forces are heading towards the liberated city of al-Qa’im, currently fighting a savage American offensive.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in ar-Ramadi reported witnesses as saying that seven columns under fighter and helicopter escort were at that moment heading towards al-Qa’im along the Euphrates Riverbank. The columns consist of tanks, other armored vehicles and large trucks carrying medium artillery.

The correspondent reported that US forces had closed the International Highway after their columns passed, preventing all cars from taking the road.

Witnesses told the correspondent that the vehicles in the American column were flying the American flag and that some of them were flying flags with crosses on them, a step that local people viewed with outrage.

American general boasts of beating al-Qa’im Resistance "even if Muhammad and Muhammad’s Lord are with them."

In a dispatch posted at 6:20pm Wednesday evening Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam wrote that as Wednesday night approached so to was the "decisive hour" that US forces had promised would come to the city of al-Qa’im.

The American-based al-Hurrah propaganda satellite TV station reported a US general on the scene could hear loudspeakers on minarets in the liberated defiant city proclaiming "God is greatest!" When the American general learned what they sounds were, he blustered to the media, "we’re going to beat them even if Muhammad and Muhammad’s Lord is with them."

The story circulated among the Resistance fighters inside al-Qa’im after it was reported by the correspondent of al-Hurrah – the only correspondent that the Americans allowed to come along with their aggressor troops and take pictures as they attacked al-Qa’im.

As the Americans’ savage attack on the besieged liberated city of al-Qa’im continued Wednesday, three local youths sought out the Mufti (Islamic jurisconsult) of the city to declare their repentance before God and before the shaykh. They confessed that they had collaborated with the occupation, supplying the Americans with intelligence information about the movements of the Resistance, having first won the confidence of the Resistance fighters.

They confessed that they gave the occupation forces the names of several members of the Resistance. The three youths declared their repentance, and said that they were prepared for whatever punishment that the Resistance prescribed, even though it be their execution. They said: "The Americans used to give us thousands of dollars every month for information on the Resistance." The youths said, however, that they discovered the true nature of the path they were on when they saw blood flowing on the face of the woman martyr of al-Qa’im, Nawfah.

Nawfah Gharkan, 40, was martyred as she battled alongside the men against US troops near al-Qa’im on Tuesday. A native of ar-Ramadi she came to al-Qa’im early Tuesday morning with relatives who were also fighters after the Mufti of al-Anbar Province issued a General Call to Arms for all who could carry weapons. She was martyred around midday, Tuesday. (See "Woman Resistance fighter dies martyr in ar-Rummanah village midday Tuesday," in Iraqi Resistance Report, 12 April 2005.)

As night falls Wednesday, Resistance holds firm, but city prepares for bloody fighting with American columns posed to attack.

In a dispatch posted at 6:40pm Mecca time Wednesday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported from al-Qa’im that as night fell Resistance forces were still in control of the areas on the eastern approaches to the city that they won back from retreating Americans in the early hours of Wednesday morning having rained heavy blows on the invaders.

The nearby village of ar-Rummanah was also continuing to hold out against American attacks for the second day, despite the diminutive size of the settlement – a mere six square kilometers.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Qa’im reported that the Americans were massing their forces at that moment on the northern approaches to the city. More than 300 various US military vehicles were drawn up there, as US helicopter gun ships and figher planes prowled the sky overhead. The Americans area apparently awaiting the order to attack the Iraqi Resistance in the free city of al-Qa’im. The Resistance fighters, for their part, have begun to prepare for the awaited battle by digging trenches and furrows in the ground, storing up water, and some fruits that do not rot quickly, in expectation of a long fight, the duration of which is known only to God.

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Qa’im met with Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir one of the Resistance commanders who also played a major role in the fighting in al-Fallujah and ar-Ramadi. Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir told the correspondent, "We are hotter than coals for this battle, because we have prepared well for them the occupation troops doing whatever is necessary. Whatever we needed to do we have done, so everything now is up to God. He has in His hands victory, and He has in His hands martyrdom. Each one is sweeter than the other, and God is the bringer of success."

Meanwhile, al-Qa’im Hospital made ready to receive the wounded and the martyrs. The hospital appealed to the people of the city to donate medical cotton, gauze or cloth, sterilizing equipment, materials for suturing wounds, or regular household sewing kits.

Mosques have taken on an unusual look as women who can cook have been called on to gather in several mosques where they can prepare meals for the Resistance fighters and provide other things that they might need.

Meanwhile, as is usual for them, the Americans resorted to their usual dirty warfare tactics, having cut off the water and electricity from the city and blockaded al-Qa’im so that no food in any form can get in, and after bombing the storage vats of drinking water, the Americans have posted snipers on the other side of the Euphrates who shoot dead anyone who approaches the river to try to get water.

A report carried by the Jordanian daily, al-'Arab al-Yawm for Thursday, 14 April 2005, quoted hospital sources in al-Qa’im as saying that many of the injured people brought in for treatment had received gunshot wounds from American snipers. A large number of those were women and children the sources reported.

Al-Qa’im Hospital also registered cases of injuries received from cluster bombs and other weapons banned under international law.

Resistance holds as America launches savage assault on al-Qa’im from all directions as night falls.

In a dispatch posted at 8:12pm Wednesday night Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that about half an hour before the report was filed, US aggressor troops launched a broad attack on the free city from the north, east, south, and west.

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Qa’im reported that the US invadet troops launched a comprehensive offensive, using fighter planes, helicopter gunships, and more than 400 tanks, armored, vehicles, armor plated vehicles, backed by medium artillery that were at the time of writing, savagely blasting the center of the city.

The correspondent emphasized that the US forces had until the time of writing failed to storm into the city from any of the four directions because the Resistance for its part was putting up a savage and courageous fight.

During the first minutes of the battle, Resistance fire brought down one American Apache helicopter.

In the east, US forces suffered very heavy losses when the Iraqi Resistance launched a surprise attack as soon as they became aware that the US offensive had begun on the other three fronts. A short while before this report was filed, Resistance forces announced over loudspeakers that the western front of the city was still holding firm and resisting, though the Resistance report noted that the fighting in that sector was "very fierce."

The correspondent reported that at the moment the total number of Resistance casualties since the US launched its attack was four Resistance fighters martyred – two of them Iraqis, one Saudi, one Jordanian. One of them fell a martyr in an attack on the enemy’s lines.

Meanwhile the loudspeakers on the mosques in the city are chanting prayers and playing their part in overcoming the cutoff of communications from the city by broadcasting specific instructions from members of the Resistance to the different fronts, the correspondent reported.

The correspondent wrote that at this moment, the city is like a block of fire and steel. The night here, he wrote, has become as day as the American container bombs and their cluster bomblets and the rockets and missiles light up the sky.

There was an unconfirmed report that the Americans had bombed the Maternity Ward and Premature Infant Section of al-Qa’im Hospital.

Stiff Resistance fighting forces US troops to retreat back outside the environs of al-Qa’im Wednesday night after fierce and bloody fighting.

In a dispatch posted at 10:55pm Mecca time Wednesday night the correspondents for Mafakrat al-Islam in al-Qa’im reported that attacking US troops had a short while before – at 10:20pm local time – retreated to outside the environs of al-Qa’im after failing to take the city by storm from four directions at once. The Americans were even unable to break through the administrative boundaries of the city.

Three Mafkarat al-Islam correspondents were at the time the report was filed posted on three sides of the city – the west, north, and east. They all watched as US forces withdrew to outside the environs of the city. This puts them now three kilometers from the west of the city, and four kilometers from the north and south of the city. Some time earlier they already had pulled back from the eastern approaches.

Fifteen minutes before this report was filed, Iraqi Resistance forces launched an intense barrage on the retreating American troops, striking them with Grad and Katyusha rockets as well as mortar shells. The mosques of al-Qa’im proclaimed "Allahu akbar!" ("God is greatest!") four times. One of the imams in a mosque declared: "these calls are a thanks to God for the fallback of the occupation, disappointed over not achieving their goals."

The US troops were seen retreating and pulling along with them their wrecked and burning vehicles.

Meanwhile, the United Leadership of the Iraqi Resistance announced in a communiqué – a copy of which was obtained by Mafkarat al-Islam – that the US forces had retreated to outside the city of al-Qa’im having sustained heavy losses. The statement also carried a threat that four US prisoners captured by the Iraqi Resistance in Wednesday’s fighting would be killed now that the US had resumed its attack on the city. The communiqué noted that one of the American prisoners was an officer with the rank of major.

At the time of writing there was no word on US losses, nor had the Resistance issued any statement on the subject. When asked to describe the battle on Wednesday, the correspondent, a veteran of coverage of the al-Fallujah fighting said that it resembled to a great extent the bloody fighting that marked the first day of the American siege of al-Fallujah.

Though American forces have fallen back, as of the time of reporting, the correspondent noted that unmanned US spy planes continued to prowl the skies over the city.

US-installed puppet "ministry of health" in Baghdad warns US military against repeating their use of poisoned gas as they did in al-Fallujah. "Ministry" statement accuses US of "war crimes" if it does not allow food and water into al-Qa’im.

The puppet so-called "Iraqi health ministry" warned the US military on Wednesday against repeating in al-Qa’im the disaster that the Americans caused in al-Fallujah when they used poisoned chemical gases, including mustard gas and nerve gasses.

Mafkarat al-Islam obtained a copy of the statement issued by the "ministry" in Baghdad which read in part, "The effects left behind by the Battle of al-Fallujah and the American army’s use of internationally prohibited agents are still being felt today and will continue to be felt for a long time to come. Therefore, the Iraqi Ministry of Health warns against the use of any chemical gases or nerve gases, or limited nuclear gases as was done in the al-Jawlan neighborhood in the northwest of al-Fallujah."

The "ministry" demanded that Islamic aid and welfare bodies and organizations be allowed into al-Qa’im to provide water and food to the population and it warned that preventing their getting into the city is considered a war crime.

Resistance shakes al-Anbar Province, Baghdad. Sixteen car bombs blast Americans. Resistance command now in hands of military men as well as religious leaders.

In a dispatch posted at 9:40am Wednesday morning Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces had made good their threat to mount attacks around Iraq if US forces failed to pull back from the environs of the liberated city of al-Qa’im by Wednesday morning.

Sixteen Iraqi Resistance car bombs blasted US convoys, checkpoints, bases and barracks across the province of al-Anbar.

In Baghdad the US military admitted that nine cars were booby trapped and blown up. A correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short time before this report was filed, the Resistance broadcast a declaration over mosque loudspeakers that they would not make the same mistake they had made in al-Fallujah.

The statement said: "Battle command will not be in the hands of men of religion only. Today running the battles will be done by military men as well who will make decisions according to the changing situation, insuring that they will continue the fight and that the fighters will stand firm."

'Anah.

Two Resistance car bombs rip apart one US military column in 'Anah, east of al-Qa’im Wednesday morning.

Two Iraqi Resistance car bombs exploded by a US column in the center of the town of 'Anah, 40km east of the defiant free city of al-Qa’im currently the object of a savage US offensive.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Captain Khalis Ahmad of the city police as saying that a car bomb was parked by the side of the road and exploded as the American column passed by, totally destroying one Humvee and disabling a second.

A second car bomb blew up five minutes later by the same American column after it stopped to tend to the dead and wounded from the first explosion. The second blast increased the number of US casualties.

'Ar-Ramadi.

Three vehicle bombs blast Americans in ar-Ramadi. US bans all cars from all roads in ar-Ramadi under shoot-on-sight order.

Three Iraqi Resistance car bombs exploded nearly simultaneously by three US military columns to the west of and in central ar-Ramadi, 110km west of Baghdad on Wednesday, killing 32 US troops and wounding others.

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in ar-Ramadi reported sources in the Iraqi puppet police and the Iraqi puppet military as saying that one car blew up by a column of several US military vehicles in the at-Ta’mim neighborhood of ar-Ramadi, destroying two Humvees and killing nine US troops. Two more American soldiers were wounded. That blast took place at 8am Wednesday morning, local time.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove a second car bomb towards a US column that was halted in the al-Mal'ab neighborhood in central ar-Ramadi. Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Americans saw the car racing towards them and opened fire and killed the driver, but the car kept going and blew up among them anyway. The blast caused enormous damage in the column, destroying one Abrams tank and disabling a Humvee and killing 11 US troops and wounding four more, according to an official source in the al-Anbar provincial puppet "government."

A third vehicle bomb, which was parked by the side of as-Sikak Street in ar-Ramadi exploded by a US column, killing 12 American soldiers instantly. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported witnesses as saying that the explosives-laden vehicle was in this case a farm tractor parked by the side of the road. It exploded as a US column was passing. Afterwards American troops imposed a ban on all cars in al-Anbar province, prohibiting any cars going out into streets. The Americans threatened to use helicopter gun ships to shoot any car they see on any road.

Army of the Partisans of the Sunnah takes credit for bomb attack Wednesday morning in ar-Ramadi.

The Army of the Partisans of the Sunnah Prophet’s Practice Resistance group announced that it was responsible for a bomb attack that blew up a US troop transport vehicle in ar-Ramadi Wednesday morning.

The Military Commission of the Army of the Partisans of the Sunnah issued a communiqué – a copy of which was obtained by the correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam, saying:

"Your brothers the Mujahideen in the city of ar-Ramadi at 7am this Wednesday morning, by the grace and favor of God the Exalted, the One, detonated a high-explosive land mine by an American troop transport that was part of a patrol in a military column in the city of ar-Ramadi. The blast struck the troop transport, leaving those aboard dead or wounded."

Addressing the US aggressor troops, the statement, dated Wednesday, 4 Rabi' al-Awwal 1426 H – 13 April 2005, added, "we promise you what will enrage you and heal the hearts of the Believers. Know that you are fighting the Army of Muhammad, May the blessings of God and peace be upon him, and the days are between us and you, while God is our Patron, but no Patron of yours."

Resistance attacks US columns heading towards al-Qa’im.

The Jordanian daily al-'Arab al-Yawm reported in its Thursday, 14 April edition that US columns advancing from the ar-Ramadi area towards al-Qa’im came under numerous Resistance attacks. Bombs reportedly exploded next to an American column disabling one vehicle and destroying another, witnesses reported. A source in the Iraqi puppet police in ar-Ramadi reported that a high-explosive Resistance bomb that went off next to a US column on the International Highway heading towards al-Qa’im was only one of many Resistance attacks on US troops heading out to try to crush the freedom of defiant al-Qa’im.

'Hit.

Double car bombing leaves 13 US troops dead Wednesday morning in Hit.

Thirteen US troops were killed and eight more wounded when two car bombs exploded at an American checkpoint in Hit at 6am Wednesday morning. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local residents who witnessed the attack as saying that two car bombs exploded simultaneously by the US checkpoint in the al-Bu Nimr area west of Hit. One of the cars was on a lane of traffic going in one direction, the other car was in a lane of traffic going in the opposite direction. The checkpoint was set up in the middle of the main street.

The double car bombing killed 13 US troops and wounded eight more, all of them having been in the checkpoint at the time of the attack.

The Resistance organization Base Qa'idah of the Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers that is led by Jordanian militant Islamist Abu Mus'ab az-Zarqawi announced its responsibility for the attack in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Mafkarat al-Islam.

'Al-Hadithah.

Resistance martyrdom bomber blasts US column in al-Hadithah Wednesday morning.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter blasted his explosives-laden car into a column of six US armored vehicles in the ar-Rifa'i neighborhood of northern al-Hadithah at 10am Wednesday morning local time, destroying three US vehicles and disabling one more Humvee, killing all aboard them.

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in the city reported a source in the puppet so-called "rapid deployment force" as saying that the car bomb was a white 1981 Supra and that the martyrdom bomber killed or wounded 15 US troops.

Residents of the district said that the blast left major destruction in its wake, wrecking three US vehicles, two of them totally destroyed and one other disabled. The US military admitted that the attack took place and that there were dead and wounded in their ranks, but as usual refused to reveal precise numbers.

'Al-Khalidiyah.

Resistance shoots down Black Hawk helicopter Wednesday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 3:17pm Wednesday afternoon, Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters in the city of al-Khalidiyah, 30km west of al-Fallujah had shot down a US Black Hawk helicopter a short while earlier. Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that they saw the helicopter on fire and crashing to earth over the Thermostone factory northeast of the city.

A source in the Iraqi Resistance told Mafkarat al-Islam that Resistance fighters fired a SAM-7surface-to-air missile at the Black Hawk.

Afterwards, US troops went in search of the wreckage of the US craft and climbed up to the roof of the Thermostone factory, apparently looking for bodies of the crewmen. American forces closed off the entire area.

'Al-Habbaniyah.

Resistance rockets blast US al-Habbaniyah base Wednesday afternoon.

Iraqi Resistance forces mounted a barrage of 13 rockets, believed to be of the Katyusha type, into the US base at al-Habbaniyah, known as the 'Ayn al-Asad Airbase in western Iraq. Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Habbaniyah that the 13 missiles blasted into the US base at 4pm Wednesday afternoon, local time.

The witnesses reported that the bombardment was targeted on the northern parts of the base where there used to be a physical training center used by the Iraqi Army before the American invasion. Today the US military occupy the area and the Resistance bombardment on their positions sent plumes of dense black smoke billowing into the sky.

A source in the puppet so-called "Iraqi emergency force" in al-Habbaniyah told Mafkarat al-Islam that the attack killed or wounded dozens of US troops. The correspondent himself saw American helicopters loading up a number of dead and wounded troops and then taking off and heading in the direction of the US 'Ayn al-Asad Base in Hit, where the American occupation forces operate a military hospital.

'Baghdad.

Three car bombs rip US troops apart in Baghdad Wednesday morning.

Three Iraqi Resistance car bombs exploded Wednesday morning, blowing apart several US columns in various parts of Baghdad. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the first car bomb exploded by a US column in the Baghdad al-Jadidah area, destroying two Humvees and killing at least nine US troops and wounding more.

Lieutenant Sa'dun Ahmad of the puppet forces told Mafkarat al-Islam that the martyrdom attack killed nine US troops and wounded others. Witnesses who saw the attack said that more than 15 US troops were killed.

A second Iraqi car bomb exploded by a column of six armored "civilian" GMC vehicles. That blast took place on the road to Saddam International Airport at 9am Wednesday morning local time, and left 14 Americans dead including one diplomat from the US embassy.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove yet a third car bomb – an explosives-laden pickup – into a US checkpoint in the Sukkaniya area south of Baghdad. That blast killed five US troops and wounded two more according to a source in the Iraqi puppet military.

Earlier, Reuters published reports on what appear to be a couple of those attacks. Reuters quoted witnesses as saying that one bomb went off by a US patrol in the Baghdad al-Jadidah (New Baghdad) area in the southeast of the occupied Iraqi capital. Reuters reported witnesses as saying that the blast completely destroyed a US Humvee. A Reuters video showed the vehicle totally wrecked and surrounded by a large number of US troops who had encircled the area and prevented people from approaching.

In a separate Resistance attack, not far from the first, Reuters said that an Iraqi Resistance bomb blew up at almost the same time as the first on Palestine Street in eastern Baghdad as a US column was passing. The blast set a large American truck ablaze. A Reuters cameraman at the scene said that the truck was totally burned, and enveloped in billowing clouds of smoke. A witness said that two US troops were seen running far away from the vehicle before it exploded in flame as a result of the bomb blast.

Mafkarat al-Islam commented on the Reuters report that the story that two Americans were seen running from the truck after the bomb exploded but before the truck went up in flame might be an American propaganda trick to avoid admitting that any US troops were killed in the attack that totally destroyed the vehicle.

Three US troops killed in Iraqi Resistance roadside bombing in Abu Ghurayb.

An Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb exploded by a US patrol of four Humvees in Abu Ghurayb, west of Baghdad, at 3pm Wednesday afternoon, local time. Local residents who witnessed the attack told Mafkarat al-Islam that the blast totally destroyed one of the Humvees and killed three US soldiers and wounded a fourth.

Board of Muslim 'Ulama’ rejects participation in "government" or "parliament" under the occupation.

Ending nonsensical speculation by the international pro-American media, the Board of Muslim 'Ulama’ Scholars of Iraq, the supreme Sunni religious authority in the country announced on Wednesday that the Board would refuse to participate in any political formation in the new Iraqi "government" or in the "parliament" under the occupation.

Shaykh Harith ad-Darri, the Chairman of the Board of Muslim 'Ulama’, said that the Board’s political program depends in the first place on Iraq being free and united, governed by its own people by consent or election, in which everyone has his legitimate rights, no more and no less.

Shaykh ad-Darri said that the elections had produced political chaos and political weakness and said that the people have been completely put off by the activities of those politicians. And the politicians themselves, he said, do not know how to behave. Any group of them can paralyze the whole political situation on a whim, or in order to serve his own interests and inclinations. The one who suffers from all this, Shaykh ad-Darri said, is the Iraq citizen, the Iraqi people. The elections, thus, produced a negative situation.

Al-Qa'idah Resistance group announces execution of puppet mayor of Abu Ghurayb.

The Resistance organization Base Qa'idah of the Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers, which is led by the Jordanian Islamist Abu Mus'ab az-Zarqawi, distributed a statement around a number of mosques in Abu Ghurayb that it had executed Naji Mahmud, the puppet Director of the Municipality of Abu Ghurayb, for his role in frustrating the attack mounted against the Abu Ghurayb prison camp.

Naji Mahmud contacted the command of the Iraqi puppet military and sought their help and that of the American invaders in resisting the Iraqi Resistance assault on the notorious prison camp.

The statement, a copy of which Mafkarat al-Islam obtained, said that Resistance fighters attacked the puppet Director’s motorcade with hand grenades and light and medium machine guns, killing him and six guards who were with him at 10am Wednesday, 4 Rabi' al-Awwal 1426H (13 April 2005).

The attack on Abu Ghurayb prison camp alarmed US forces with the efficiency and expertise of its planning. The early warning proviced by the stooge Naji Mahmud complicated the operation which nevertheless freed 150 prisoners, according to an earlier communiqué from the same Resistance organization.

Resistance bombards US al-Ghazlani base north of Baghdad Wednesday night.

Iraqi Resistance forces blasted the US al-Ghazlani base north of Baghdad with an intense barrage of Grad rockets and mortar sounds, sending flames shooting into the sky over the northern part of the base Wednesday night. In a dispatch posted at 11:25pm Mecca time Wednesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US radio acknowledged the attack, which was still under way when the correspondent submitted his report. As usual, however, the Americans gave no information on their casualties.

Board of Muslim 'Ulama’ denounces murder of Sunni religious leader.

The Board of Muslim 'Ulama’ Scholars denounced the criminal attack on a colleague of Shaykh Mujahid Ibn ash-Shahid ash-Shaykh Muhammad TaHa as-Samarra’i, the imam and preacher of the at-Taysir Mosque in al-Mahmudiyah and a teacher in the Islamic schoold.

The Board issued a statement, a copy of which Mafkarat al-Islam obtained, saying that the latest criminal killing was another link in a chain that saw the man’s father murdered in 1991 as elements seek to kill off sincere Iraqis and sow sectarian discord in the country. The main purveyor of such internecine fighting is the hated US occupation which seeks to divide the Iraqi people in order to push through its hostile plans for the country.

Four US troops killed in roadside bombing in al-Khalis Wendesday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 4:40pm Wednesday afternoon, Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a high-explosive Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb blew up on the road to Ba'qubah in the town of al-Khalis, northwest of Ba'qubah, on Wednesday. A source in the Iraqi puppet police told Mafkarat al-Islam that the blast destroyed a Humvee and killed four US troops and seriously wounded another. As usual after such attacks, US force encircled the area and evacuated the bodies of the dead into an American military ambulance.

Salah ad-Din Province.

Samarra’.

Two US troops killed in car bombing in Samarra’ midday Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted at 2pm Mecca time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that seven US troops were killed or wounded when an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter plowed an explosives-laden car into a US patrol in the city of Samarra’, 120km north of Baghdad.

The correspondent in Samarra’ reported a source in the city Fire Department who arrived on the scene of the attack that the blast, which took place at 1pm local time, disabled one US armored vehicle, killing two American soldiers and wounding five more, three of them seriously. The local Fire Department was called to the scene because the bomb ignited a fire in the middle of the street.

After the blast, US forces evacuated their dead and wounded and brought in a giant crane and a truck to haul away the wrecked vehicle.

The Iraqi puppet police announced that an Iraqi Resistance bomb planted on a road near Kirkuk exploded on Wednesday as Iraqi guards were trying to disarm it. The blast killed nine and wounded four of the puppet troops, Reuters reported.

Major General Turhan Yusuf, the chief of the puppet police in Kirkuk said that all the dead were guards working for the Oil of the North company – a firm set up by the US occupation to plunder the country’s oil resources.

The blast occurred near the city of Kirkuk, 250km north of Baghdad.

Resistance seizes most of Tall 'Afar as US troops pull out.

In a dispatch posted at 11: 55am Wednesday morning Mecca time, Mafkrat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces had taken control of three-quarters of the city of Tall 'Afar, a city that covers a total land area of 56 square kilometers. Resistance fighters deployed in lanes and back streets, in residential neighborhoods in very large numbers as US forces withdrew from those places, in a development not understood by the local population, according to Mafkarat al-Islam.

The correspondent reported witnesses as saying that the Resistance seized those areas and then began to prepare for battle. The center of the city was found to be free of US military presence on the ground.

The skies above the city are another matter, the correspondent reported, as American fighter-bombers at the time of writing were prowling about above the area.

Two deadly car bombings blast American troops in Mosul Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted at 12:15pm Mecca time Wednesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighters blew up two car bombs by two columns of US troops to the west and north of Mosul on Wednesday, killing a large number of American invaders.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Mosul reported witnesses as saying that an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove a car into a US column that was on its way into the US al-Ghazlani base – the main American facility in the city – at 11am Wednesday morning local time. The blast destroyed a US tank and killed all aboard it when the vehicle burst into flames from which they could not escape.

The correspondent reported a spokesman for the US military as admitting the attack on the Americans’ internal radio station beamed at the population of Mosul, but the US, as usual, failed to disclose casualty figures.

A second Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-laden car into the midst of a US column that was stopped at the end of a street in Mosul. The fighter drove his car between two Humvees and blew himself up, destroying both vehicles completely. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported an officer in the Iraqi puppet army’s "Wolf Brigade" as confirming the attack and saying that none of the Americans got out of the stricken vehicles, and that all were killed instantly.

Sunni religious authorities denounce murder of Muqtada as-Sadr aide.

The Sunni Board of Muslim 'Ulama’ Scholars issued a statement denouncing the murder of Fadil ash-Shawki, the Deputy Director of the office of Shi'i religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr and his aides, calling it a "criminal act."

Fadil as-Shawki was murdered by unknown gunmen on 9 April as he took part in demonstrations protesting the second anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq.

The Board of Muslim 'Ulama’, the highest Sunni religious authority in Iraq, declared in its statement, "attempts are under way to eliminate the best sons and daughters of Iraq and to sow internecine hatred and conflict. This is being done by the enemies of Iraq and the Iraqi people, and in the first place by the hated occupation, which wishes to split the unity of Iraqis so as to push through their hostile plans and projects."
