TODAY - Tuesday 31 January 2006 The 100th British soldier was killed in Iraq.
5 PM TODAY - Parliament Square - to name the dead (British and Iraqi)
WEDNESDAY evening - every town and city in the UK - protests and vigils

100 - a sadly significant statistic for this country, to be added to the in excess of 100,000 other victims of Tony Blair's 'blood price' - Iraqis, Americans, British and others. We must stop this madness now before these Bush / Blair wars spread any further. Londoners come to Parliament Square this evening to 'name the dead' and tomorrow attend demonstrations and vigils across the country. Message from Rose Gentle (mother of Fusilier Gordon Gentle, killed in Basra on 28 June 2004): "Soldiers in Iraq have told me they don't want to be there. They want to come home. They have told us to step up our campaign of resistance to this government's war policies. We must act now, bring the troops home and end this illegal occupation...

We must act now, bring the troops home and end this illegal occupation."

Message from Reg Keys (father of Lance-Corporal Thomas Keys, killed in al-Majar on y 24 June 2003): "Would you please convey my deepest sorrow and sympathies to the families of the recent tragic and unnecessary deaths in Iraq. As a person who has experienced this loss I can honestly say "I know how you feel". Surely now is the time to focus on a constructive exit strategy and bring home the troops from Iraq. To remain in Iraq will merely result in a steady trickle of coffins returning to these shores. We have to remember that troop deployment was based on the deceit of WMD not on regime change, and to keep our loyal troops there is to support regime change which is clearly against international law. These service personnel have had their Oath of Allegiance betrayed and their patriotism exploited by a Prime Minister that lacked the integirity and moral fibre to resist the pressure of war from President George W Bush. Had the invasion been backed by international law and the UN and had Iraq possessed WMD which could have threatened Britain then I am sure the families of these servicemen killed would more readily accept and come to terms with their deaths. One has to remember the Prime Minister's speech to the House of Commons in February 2003 when he said: 'Saddam could stay in power if he handed over his WMD.' Occupation will continue to be the problem not the solution and will only encourage further attacks on British forces. Surely it is now time to apply the soothing balm of reason, steadily withdaw from Iraq and let Iraq heal itself.

Here's what can be done ........

.... On Saturday 21 January 2006 Nottingham STWC draped Nottingham's Armed Forces Recruitment Centre with coffin-shaped placards naming members of the British Forces killed in Iraq ... read report and see photos
