Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Monday, 13 December 2004 and Tuesday, 14 December 2004

Al-Fallujah –ar-Ramadi – al-Khalidiyah.

Fighting for the third straight day in al-Fallujah.

For the third straight day, Iraqi Resistance forces battled US occupation troops in al-Fallujah in fierce fighting on Monday. The latest round of battles began on Sunday afternoon (12 December 2004), and lasted until after dawn on Monday. Resistance sources say that the Americans have begun to falter under the repeated blows of the Resistance attacks from various sides. American troops fell back outside the city in order to let US aircraft in to pound the city’s defenders. According to QudsPress, the Resistance in the city reported that 20 US troops were killed in the continuing fighting. Mafkarat al-Islam’s networks of reporters suggested that city-wide the American death toll was higher.

Fighting was concentrated in the al-'Askari and al-Jawlan neighborhoods and in the industrial zone of al-Fallujah – areas that the US lost control of and then pounded with fierce bombing. American aircraft dropped napalm and massive container bombs, each one of which releases hundreds of anti-personnel cluster bombs.

US F-16s and F-18s bombed the al-Wahdah neighborhood in central al-Fallujah, demonstrating at least that the Resistance was telling the truth when it claimed to have driven the Americans out of that part of the city.

Fighting raged in the old city of al-Fallujah – located between the old and the new bridges in the western part of al-Fallujah. The Resistance began to gain the upper hand there around 12:30pm Monday after continuous fighting since Sunday night. Mafkarat al-Islam reported 35 Americans dead in combat there and 13 Iraqi Resistance fighters martyred. The website reported that fraternal Arab fighters were leading the combat in that area, using light, medium and heavy weapons, including Dimitrov anti-aircraft guns. The source described the fighting there as "decisive."

Battle erupted in the al-Jumhuriyah neighborhood of Baghdad at about 8am Monday and raged until about 9:45am.

Fighting broke out in the al-Jawlan neighborhood, but was described as light. Battle was also reported going on at the edges of the industrial zone to the east.

Resistance sources told QudsPress that the US aggressors who had been in the village of al-Azraqiyah to the west of al-Fallujah, had evacuated the village, falling back to behind the railroad tracks, under intense Iraqi Resistance fire.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US forces began falling back from positions in the al-Wahdah neighborhood at around 10am Monday, with Resistance forces gaining the upper hand over the Americans by 12:30pm.

The Resistance is determined to wipe out American troops, and fresh US forces were reportedly being brought in from their base in al-Habbaniyah. A long US column of military vehicles, including 56 Abrams tanks of the US Marine type (different from the ordinary Army type) was observed heading towards al-Fallujah, along with Bradley armored vehicles. Fourteen US vehicles arrived in less than half an hour at one point – specifically, nine Abrams, and five Humvees.

Nevertheless, the situation looks grim for the Americans, and Resistance fighters shot down one Apache helicopter over the al-Wahdah neighborhood, forcing the US to pull all its helicopters out of the action.

Resistance forces pulled back from the al-'Askari neighborhood into the adjacent industrial zone, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. The website quoted Resistance commander Abu Nada as saying, "our strategy is based on sending a message to the occupation troops, saying 'when we want to, we will attack and kill you, and when we want to we will withdraw from the places into which we had moved.’ This is the way to destroy the occupation troops morale, to cause them to lose faith in themselves. Trying to hold on to one spot regardless of circumstances, on the other hand, might encourage the American army to try to storm and take it."

Resistance forces were able to seize an American tank all in one piece and fully functional after the American troops who had been manning it fled. Resistance fighters then used the tank in the course of continuing combat. Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Resistance used the tank to open fire on American forces and believe that they must have killed 35 of them.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Resistance fighters were able to feign withdrawal from one area in the al-'Askari neighborhood, luring American troops into a building that they had previously wired to explode. The American forces fell into the trap, which was created for them on the main street in the popular area.Pursuing the "retreating" Resistance fighters, the US troops began searching homes for fighters and weapons caches. Eyewitnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Resistance left a small quantity of arms in one house to attract them, planting half a ton of explosives in the building as well. When about 40 Americans gathered in the building to admire what they had found, the Resistance fighters detonated the explosives, bringing the roof of the structure down on the soldiers’ heads. Fire blazed from all sides of the building. Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an American general was among the dead.

Many of the 20 American troops that QudsPress reported killed in the latest round of combat in al-Fallujah perished in the area known as an-Nazizah where fighting broke out with the first hours of the day and continued for the rest of Monday.

There are reports, according to Qudspress, that about 15 US troops were killed when Resistance fighters rigged themselves with explosives, which they detonated after walking in among the American troops.

An American aircraft also reportedly dropped poisoned gas on the al-Jawlan neighborhood of al-Fallujah on Saturday-Sunday night in an apparent attempt to retake the area. Large numbers of Iraqi fighters’ bodies were then observed strewn around on the ground, dead but with no visible wounds.

According to QudsPress, substantial numbers of Iraqi Resistance fighters are also reported to have flooded into al-Fallujah to join the fight against the American invaders. They have taken advantage of a route newly opened by the Resistance that links the city with ar-Ramadi. Mafkarat al-Islam reported that fighters from the cities of Tikrit and Mosul have moved into the city to take part in the great war of attrition against the Americans there.

Resistance forces are reportedly attempting to encircle the US rear as they are engaged in attacking the city.

Car bomb in al-Fallujah, kills more than 10 US troops.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a US military column near al-Fallujah Monday, killing more than 10 US troops, according to eyewitnesses who said that the car exploded by US vehicles on the main street leading to the an-Nu'aymiyah area.

A local observer told QudsPress that the car exploded when it ran into a US Rio troop transport vehicle that was totally destroyed in the blast. American occupation soldiers then surrounded the scene of the attack, as flames leapt from the stricken vehicle. US helicopters showed up to evacuate the dead and wounded as American soldiers fired indiscriminately into crowds of local civilians.

Al-Fallujah has recently seen an upsurge in Resistance activity.

Resistance uleashes rocket barrage on US troops occupying mosque in al-Fallujah.

Iraqi Resistance forces mounted a fierce bombardment of US troop concentrations near the al-Hadrah al-Muhammadiyah Mosque at the northern edge of al-Fallujah on Monday. US troops occupied the mosque and used it as a headquarters for operations inside the city.

Sources told QudsPress that more than seven high-explosive Grad rockets struck the area. American bulldozers were called in and remained in the area of the strike for several hours, digging up rubble and extracting more than 20 bodies and dozens of injured US soldiers.

Resistance fighters attacked the mosque – the largest in al-Fallujah – after learning of US outrages there after the US capture of the facility on 11 December. American troops, who proclaimed the Iraqi Resistance to be "satanic" set up rooms in the mosque for sexual activities. Pages of the Qur’an were found strewn on the ground soiled by American troops’ desecration in a base manner. Bottles of alcohol were spilled and strewn about the area.

Fighting resumed in al-Fallujah after a period of relative calm. Resistance fighters launched ferocious attacks on American troops after which US aircraft fiercely bombed many neighborhoods of the city, in what resembled the heavy bombings that accompanied US attacks on the city two weeks ago.

US admits: Eight American aggressor troops killed in al-Anbar Province.

The US occupation command in Iraq admitted on Monday that eight US troops had been killed in the western province of al-Anbar. As usual, the invaders concealed all details concerning the time and place of these combat deaths. Al-Anbar Province is where the defiant cities of al-Fallujah and ar-Ramadi are located, as well as many other centers of Resistance to US aggression.

Iraqi Resistance forces ambushed a US force in al-Khalidiyah, west of al-Fallujah on Monday, killing five US troops according to eyewitnesses quoted by QudsPress.

American troops on Monday encircled and besieged the western districts of the city of ar-Ramadi, and then launched a campaign in which they stormed and ransacked houses of local residents.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded at a joint US-puppet "national guard" check point near the US occupation headquarters in the Republican Palace in Baghdad – known to the invaders as "the green zone." Seven persons were killed and nine others wounded. All were waiting for access to their jobs as collaborators serving the US invader troops.

Four explosions shook the area of Saddam International Airport where the American invaders have one of their largest bases.

Bayji.

Iraqi Resistance forces blew up an oil pipeline near Bayji on Monday, setting the line ablaze. The Resistance regularly targets Iraq’s oil export infrastructure to prevent the occupation from stealing the country’s oil resources and selling them for their own profit.

Kirkuk.

Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded a school that has been designated as an "election center" for the farcical "election" theatrics to be staged by the US occupation and its stooge regime at the end of January 2005. No casualties resulted from the attack. The Iraqi Resistance has warned the public to stay strictly away from all facilities and organizations associated with the election farce, because all such places and groups are targets, inasmuch as their role is to help the occupation take on a cover of fake "legitimacy."

Iraqi Resistance fighters attacked and killed an Iraqi collaborator serving the US military occupation forces as a translator. QudsPress reported that civilians were wounded in the engagement.

Al-Basrah.

The Iraqi Resistance mounted a rocket attack on the British imperialist consulate in al-Basrah. The British made no report of casualties as a result.

Al-Fallujah.

Fighting breaks out Tuesday night in northern al-Fallujah.

In a dispatch posted at 1:50am Wednesday morning Mecca time, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Fallujah reported that violent battles broke out in an area known as Waqfat al-Ghanam or Suq al-Ghanam [Sheep Market] in the northern part of the al-Jawlan neighborhood in al-Fallujah Tuesday night. The Resistance and US forces exchanged barrages, as US aircraft ferociously bombarded the area whild Resistance fighters fired 82mm and 120mm mortar rounds at US positions.

A Resistance fighter told the correspondent that the explosions were so violent that the earth rocked back and forth like a cradle. US forces shelled the ash-Shuhada’ neighborhood. The correspondent wrote that fighting was also still under way in all its ferocity in the area between the two bridges for the third straight day. US aircraft dropped three massive container bombs – full of anti-personnel cluster bombs – on the al-Wahdah neighborhood, won back from the Americans recently.

Meanwhile, the Resistance outside the city struck US troop concentrations west of the old city of al-Fallujah with five Grad rockets.

Resistance shoots down US F-16 fighter plane.

At 10pm Tuesday Iraqi Resistance forces fired a SAM-9 rocket and shot down a US F-16 fighter-bomber over the ash-Shuhada’ neighborhood of al-Fallujah. The airplane crashed into the an-Nazal neighborhood, destroying two houses. The pilot is believed to have survived the attack, and Resistance forces searched for him in the an-Nazal and ash-Shuhada’ neighborhoods.

Fierce fighting in al-Fallujah.

In a dispatch posted at 11:20pm Mecca time Tuesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that on Tuesday the neighborhoods of al-Wahdah and al-'Askari and the industrial zone returned again to Resistance control.

At about 5am Tuesday, eyewitnesses reported, Resistance fighters withdrew from those three areas in the hopes of drawing US troops into the neighborhoods where traps had been laid for them. The US forces feared to enter some of the areas, however. US troops refused to advance into the al-Wahdah neighborhood, contenting themselves with a bombardment of the area. Finally the Resistance reoccupied the neighborhood at about 9am, once again asserting their authority there, where it remained at the time the correspondent filed his report.

A similar story held true for the industrial zone too, where US troops refused to advance into the vacated zone, bombing and bombarding it from aircraft and with mortars and tank cannon. The Resistance forces therefore returned to the industrial zone at about 8:30am and were there still when the Mafkarat al-Islam report was filed.

US forces did enter the al-'Askari neighborhood, however at about 8am Tuesday, igniting battles, including hand-to-hand fighting, with the Resistance from 9:30 until 11am. Resistance fighters used spears and swords to kill American troops quietly, and succeeded in doing in 19 American soldiers. Four Resistance fighters were killed in the fighting – 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jaza’iri, Abu ad-Darda’ at-Tunisi, Abu Salih al-Muhammadi al-'Iraqi, and Abu Ahmand al-Hamdani al-'Iraqi. The close quarter fighting was a way to prevent US aircraft from getting involved. After the battles there, US forces withdrew from the al-'Askari neighborhood and the Resistance again extended their control over the area.

US forces on Tuesday bombed the ash-Shuhada’ neighborhood with anti-personnel cluster bombs and napalm. The US occupation forces also struck the area located between the two bridges with nerve gas after grueling battles there had lasted 56 hours. During that period, US troops razed to the ground dozens of homes in that area. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent asked Resistance Spokesman Shaykh Abu As'ad ad-Daylami about what unit had battled the Americans in that sector of the city with such determination, and Shaykh Abu As'ad replied, "We don’t know anything about them. We don’t know who they are. Fifty hours they fought and never once asked us for anything. We don’t know if those are mortal men, or what." The correspondent asked whether they were fraternal Arab fighters, and Shaykh Abu As'ad replied, "We don’t know! If we knew, we would give you an answer; but their violent resistance was just amazing to us."

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that within just two hours he saw 11 clouds of thick black smoke – indicating the destruction of an Abrams tank – rise into the sky in the area.

Fighting ceased in the al-Jawlan neighborhood in al-Fallujah’s northwest after the Resistance withdrew from that area to the south. At the same time, though the al-Jawlan area is regarded as a "gold mine" by Resistance fighters, for it is there that they take out US vehicles and capture weapons in large quantities. Resistance fighters have carried off hundreds of sets of body armor and advanced weapons, including a machine gun that had been mounted on an Apache helicopter that the Resistance disabled. The Resistance naturally took away large quantities of ammunition for the weapon as well.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent noted that many Resistance fighters are now wearing body armor. More than 50 small US spy planes were observed flying over the city like flocks of birds in the sky. Spokesman Abu As 'ad said in this regard, "every time we shoot down one of those, five more come to take its place. So we decided not to open fire but to take the necessary precautions so that the planes will not transmit any important information.

The Resistance also requested that the correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam keep a distance from the fighting zones within the city.

Resistance destroys US supply truck near al-Fallujah Tuesday afternoon.

Iraqi Resistance fighters on a branch of the Tigris River northeast of al-Fallujah fired an RPG7 rocket at a US supply truck hauling civilian-type supplies at about 2:30pm Tuesday, killing two US soldiers aboard it.

US sends huge column of tanks, armored vehicles into the battle around al-Fallujah as the American offensive falters. Resistance ambushes column burning eight fuel tankers and 12 tanks and killing 23 US troops.

In a dispatch posted at 10:35pm Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Iraqi Resistance in al-Karmah, north of al-Fallujah, had destroyed several US military fuel tankers and Abrams tanks that were on their way to al-Fallujah on Tuesday. Twenty-three US troops were killed, the local Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported.

About 477 US Abrams tanks entered al-Fallujah on Monday and Tuesday in four columns, according to Mafkarat al-Islam. Three of the columns (one sent from Abu Ghurayb and two from al-Habbaniyah) entered the city Monday at 8am, 9am, and 2pm. The fourth column entered al-Fallujah on Tuesday.

In addition, a massive US military column left Baghdad headed for al-Fallujah. Eyewitnesses reported seeing more than 325 Abrams tanks being carried on massive trucks in that column, each truck carrying two tanks. Besides that, there were 105 Bradley armored vehicles in addition to Humvees of various types.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent also observed trucks loaded with mortars in the column as well as massive fuel tank truck belonging to Jordanian and Turkish companies. This column left Baghdad under the protection of US aircraft.

Iraqi Resistance fighters were waiting for the column in al-Karmah where they ambushed it and set eight fuel tankers and six trucks – each carrying two tanks – ablaze. Sources told Mafkarat al-Islam that at least 23 US troops were killed in the Resistance attack.

This massive infusion of US armor into al-Fallujah is intended to compensate for losses incurred in the course of the faltering US offensive on the city.

Spokesman for al-Fallujah Resistance: 3 US Generals in captivity.

In a dispatch posted at 11pm Tuesday night Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the spokesman for the al-Fallujah Resistance fighters, Abu As'ad ad-Dulaymi announced that 350 US troops had been wiped out during the operations carried out by the city’s Resistance fighters in the previous three days. This figure does not count the casualties inflicted by Resistance fighters who came in from the west and north of the city to join the battle against the US aggressors.

In the course of the three days’ battles, Shaykh Abu As'ad ad-Dulaymi said, 82 Iraqi Resistance fighters had been martyred. The Shaykh added, however, that "by the grace of God Resistance fighters had been pouring into al-Anbar Province and as a result the losses of the Resistance have been made up for five times over, i.e., 400 fighters."

Shaykh Abu As'ad said that many of the Resistance operations had been filmed over these three days and that the films had been transferred to Baghdad today [Tuesday].

Shaykh Abu As'ad ad-Dulaymi said that 47 Americans had been taken prisoner between Saturday, 11 December 2004 and Tuesday morning. Three of the prisoners are generals, men of very high rank. One was captured as he was following the movements of his troops in al-Fallujah. In addition, 243 puppet so-called "Iraqi national guard" troops have also been captured. Ad-Dulaymi said that those prisoners would be treated according to Islamic law, not the Geneva Convention.

US forces sent an emissary to the building of the governorate of al-Anbar in ar-Ramadi city try to negotiate the release of the three generals. The Resistance, however, refuses to release the generals separately from their men. Mafkarat al-Islam quotes the Resistance position as being: "either we release all of them or we hold all of them." Sources close to the Iraqi Resistance told Mafkarat al-Islam that the occupation forces have a number of Resistance fighters in captivity as well, 90 percent of whom were taken prisoner on 26 Ramadan (9 November 2004), the day when the aggressor forces broke into al-Fallujah, hitting the Resistance with narcotic gas – something for which they were unprepared.

Shaykh Abu As'ad ad-Dulaymi rejected American claims to have captured 3,000 Resistance fighters.

Resistance sources reported that the Consultative Council of the Mujahideen of al-Fallujah is scheduled to release a communiqué on Wednesday, 15 December regarding the losses it that the Resistance has inflicted on the Americans in recent days.

Islamic Resistance in al-Anbar issues communiqué.

A communiqué issued by the General Command of the Islamic Resistance in al-Anbar reported Tuesday that in several operations on 12 and 13 December, their units had destroyed US Humvees in the al-'Annaz area, killing all aboard them. Seven US Rio personnel carriers were destroyed in the an-Nu'aymiyah area, killing all aboard.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that the communiqué listed eight other Humvees as being destroyed, killing four US Marines at 3pm on 13 December.

Iraqi Resistance counter offensive continues for fourth straight day.

Violent fighting continued in al-Fallujah on Tuesday for the fourth straight day. Fighting intensified on Monday evening and lasted into Tuesday morning. The clashes were still underway at the time a report by QudsPress, posted at 6:17am GMT, was submitted. The fiercest battles were concentrated along al-Fallujah’s main street where the al-Hajj Husayn Restaurant is located in the center of the city. The main street divides al-Fallujah in half and marked the southern boundary of US penetration into the city.

Clouds of black smoke could be seen rising over the scene of the fighting as US fighter airplanes bombed and rocketed numerous neighborhoods in the city.

On Tuesday morning, Iraqi Resistance forces announced that they had fired a rocket and shot down an unmanned US spy plane as it tried to scout out targets for further American savagery.

Resistance forces on Tuesday destroyed four American Humvees and disabled an Abrams tank. The number of US casualties as a result of these attacks was unknown.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired more than ten Ababil rockets at the US base in the agricultural area northeast of the city. Airraid sirens could be heard going off within the American compound as the rockets struck home. US helicopters took off to prowl the area around the base as clouds of smoke rose into the sky from the stricken occupation facility.

Fighting renewed in al-Fallujah four days ago after about two weeks of relative lull. During that period US troops pulled many of their forces out of the northern half of the city into which they had penetrated and occasional battles raged near the extremities of the city, as more and more Resistance fighters broke through the weakening US blockade to join their brothers defending the city. Then four days ago Resistance fighters went on the offensive, having been reinforced significantly from outside the city.
